I also like the idea of a knife that would be rare or impossible to find here. Do you know of any others in that category besides the Outrider?
.

Do you mean hard to find SAK's, or folders in general?

Check this out.
Svord knives--Bryan Baker.
Most of his knives are fixed blade, but he does make some really good folders.
Especially look at the "#PK Peasant Knife"--does not cost much either.

Click here for info on him and his knives.

The Peasant knife apparently got some excellent reviews in, I can't remember, maybe Blade magazine.

Waiuku is a bit out of the way but it might be worth it. Remember to call well ahead to check for availability of whichever knife you want.

Good luck!

Definitely not just SAKs. In fact, not even necessarily folders.

The Svord blades look quite interesting. Also interesting on the same page of the link you posted are the FlipStick sharpeners. How do you find those?

thanks again for the pointers,

Hi There
If you are sending knives doen here there are afew thinds to be aware of
No double edged blades
No autos, balis or gravity knives
No bayonets
Airmail takes up three weeksfrom the US, Global priority up to seven days
usual problems with unprocessed wood and animal products. The Fish and
Ag inspectors have no sense of humour.
Hope this helps.

Airmail can take up to 3 months :(. This is how long my package travelled to NZ.

First I see them.
Well, you can just order from that website and have it mailed to an address here in New Zealand so you can pick it up easily, or maybe you'll find them or something similar at the House of Knives (I posted the address to them earlier).

Other than Svord we've got some good custom makers.
Here's a guy originally from South Africa.
http://www.brentsandowknives.com

They're all fixed blades.

A bit more money than you'll probably want to spend, but you might see something unique you like.

Good luck!

I don't think you'll find many unusual production knives as you can get practically anything from the USA.

If you're looking for custom makers, there are are few. If you are looking for somewhat interesting but very usable kitchen knives then have a look at www.knives.co.nz - Laurent lives in Auckland around the corner from me!

Ok - some good news: Vince from Omega Tactical shipped me a couple of CS blades on the 19th of May and I've received them this afternoon (25th of May)! ! !

He used Global Priority and the blades got here in perfect shape.

I would like to thank Vince, Global and the NZ Postal service for all playing a part in making me a very happy man.

Cheers,

Greg :D :D :D

Hi Guys
Just recieved two parcels from the US, one from John Greco and one from Himalyan Imports. They each took 15 days from dispatch to arrival on my doorstep. Haven't had one go astray yet, although a small order from Newt Livesay has not appeared yet!!!!

Chances are your Livesay package going NOSHOW had little to do with the postal service :-) Im on my 4 or 5th ( I forget its been so long :-) Promise of package being shipped in over a yr. and from what I hear, Im not doing to bad compared to most. :-) Best of luck sir as well.
Loandr.

Hi there
Yes I am aware of some issues with Newt Livesay, I checked, before ordering, that he had stock of the items I wanted. Have just had an email saying all is in the post, will wait and see.
Phil

Ahh the good old kiwis are here and in full strength - all four of us! :)

That knfe should be no problem - looks more like a chisel to me with an edge on the other side. A "woodworking" tool for customs declarations purposes.

I would suggest sending it via Registered Insured Air Mail - costs a few $$ more, but it significantly reduces the chnaces of it going "astray".

Customs have been opening ALL my packages lately containing knives, but didn't bother with my collapsable batons! :)
Hi I'm nick and im in nz too, I'm in whangaporoa stanmore bay
