Hey Folks,

I recently tried to ship a fixed blade to Sweden through USPS and they told me that Sweden doesn't allow "Daggers, knives & weapons to be shipped to them with no exceptions".

I'm wondering, how the hell do people in Sweden get their knives? The guy I tried sending it to has a huge collection of fixed blades. Does anyone know how to LEGALLY send knives from the US to Sweden? I sent the guy an email, and am currently waiting on the response. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that Swedish people don't cut their sandwiches with hammers...

If it's anything like Australia, you can buy daggers in the shops but are forbidden from importing them yourself. Go figger

Sending knives from US to Sweden is no problem as long as they aren´t throwing stars, automatic knives, karambites etc.

Khukuris or big Busse knives for exampe are no problem. All my big knives come from the US and they have all been inspected by the Swedish Customs.

Hang_the_later,

What description do people normally use when shipping to you? Also, which carrier(s) have they used?

Description: "Camping tool" or "Khukuri"
Once I got a letter from the customs office asking what a Khukuri was. I just told them that it was a big knife. The reply was that there are no problem to import knives. But weapons or knives designed to be used as weapons are not allowed.

I remember using USPS and UPS a couple of times.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Update: Thanks to hang_them_later and after calling UPS for advice, I described the knife as "Camping/Hunting Knife" and USPS took it with no questions. Thanks HTL!

Never tell the USPS nazi's what's in the box.

Almost all knives are legal to send to sweden. These are not:
Balisong-knives
Auto-knives

Shape of blade, size etc to not matter. Of course the customs can ask you about the push-knife for example, but it is not forbidden.

Or tell them exactly.

"It's a 01 nessmuk with a tapered tang, red liners and curly maple scales."

Wait for blank stare and proceed.

I originally labeled it "Fallkniven A1 Collectors Knife". The lady looked at it and said "What's a Fel...vnin...kin?":D

I called UPS and asked them about Sweden laws and they said to call back after they spoke to customs. When I call back, he said the customs people said that "hunter's and kitchen knives are okay, but not weapons". And they asked him if it "looked like it was designed to be used as a weapon". He said that he couldn't get any specific answers as what a "weapon" would look like from them, but assured me that if it were a "hunting knife", there wouldn't be any problems. Whatever works:confused:...
