I understand allot of knife companies and Ebayers wouldn't ship outside of the US, Is it that much of a hassle?? How much of a diffrence is it really in regards to shipping prices? I am going to ship an item (SWORD) to Sweden and I am curious how much out of the pocket expenses I am going to encounter? Thanks

I'm guessing about 20USD would be out of your pocket at least for shipping.
If I were you, I'd try and make sure that I got the payment before I'll ship.

dear calyth.....
Why so critical about shipping outside of US:confused:
ANY bad experience?
Same is meant for people who ship from Europe to US: Always get your
money first, never know who is the client in the US. The bad guys not always sits outside of the USA.....

I always try to look at things from BOTH sides. It's helpful to keep the perspective

I ship almost 100 packages/month to the US (and rest of the World) all the time and they ALL arrived safely.

When receiving packages here, I never had have any problems with regular mail, but if I order something expensive like a nice knife, I always ask for Global Express Mail (EMS) that costs $25-30 -for a single boxed knife- and gets here in less than a week and has a nice tracking number that allows both me and the seller to track it in between.

Then I had to go pick it up at teh Customs section of the Post office and pray not to pay 50% over the value of what I ordered, but that has nothing to do with the service of the post :)

PD: if you are overseas and see something cool on eBay, ask the seller even if s/he stated NO DELIVERY outside the US. I've been luck ALL times ;)

I live in Israel and have boxes coming in and out all year long.

During the last 3 years or so, dozens if not hundreds, came and went and none got lost.

Global priority mail sometimes beats the UPS...that is, I get the knife here from the US before someone else gets it inside CONUS..:)

Shipping expense are reasonable, as long as you don’t use the special carriers...they may charge up to 45$ for a single box with one small folder in it...I think it's not worth it...Plus – they have a tendency to take all their packages for customs inspection…with regular mail or GPM this rarely ever happens…;)

I'm involved in a cash/trade deal at the moment for a Busse Steel Heart, involving me shipping a knife and cash to the US from the UK. I used the UK Post Office, and had no problems. I work for a company that ships specialist car parts around the world on a daily basis, yet when I enquired about shipping a single knife they went ape, so my advice is to stick with your local postal services.

Cheers

Shaun ;)

The last months I received about 6 knives from the US (to the Netherlands).
All came in a USPS Global Priority Mail Flat-Rate Envelope. The knifes were wrapped in plastic, and the boxes were folded flat.
Shipping cost is $5. No insurnace I guess, but I even received my Sebenza in one. (my risk of course).

One thing to remember is that shipping out of the US costs a lot more than shipping to the US. I have some friends in the Netherlands and we compared shipping charges one day. I would cost me approx 3x the amount on an average 7 day Airmail package to ship there than it would be for him to ship to me. It's kinda sad. On that note, I've shipped to a number of different countries when selling stuff on Ebay. I've never had a problem with anything arriving. I shipped out USPS Airmail (not ground!) and they always took around 5-7 days.

The whole reason I started this thread was because I had two swords I needed to ship out of the US, One sword to Canada, and one to Sweden. I was mostly worried about cost, B/C I was given $15 from each person for shipping. Well the first sword to Canada cost me $17.50 to get it there in 5-10 days. Not to bad. Only $2.50 out of pocket. The second sword to Sweden ran me $25 for the slowest method of shipping(4-6 weeks) So I am out $17.50. Thats darn near all I was making on the deal. :( Oh well, I was thinking it was going to be worst anyway. This was an Ebay deal and my auctions said for US Residents only, But I guess they didn't notice the red print :( Well no more of that :)

I'm a UK reader/ebayer.

Most of the ebay stuff I buy has come from US only sellers - I write and ask if they'll ship.

Most have heard of and are content to use Global Priority Mail.
$10.00 to the UK? It's great.

Never lost a package in 3 years...
