Shipping to Australia costs?

Sorry wasn't too sure which forum this would fall into.
Was just wondering, what kind of costs are there if I were to ship something USPS priority international to Australia? Package would be pretty small, under 10 ounces. Tried looking up the rates online and I came up with around $44? THat cant be right can it??
 
I'm in Australia. When I order knives from the US I usually expect to pay close to $50 for shipping, so that is probably correct.

The last time I mailed a knife to Australia it cost $16.95 using a large video box. If you use this box to ship internationally it is considered a flat rate box.
 
Current published pricing as of 1/21/13, the last price increase, was Flat Rate International: Small Box $23.95, Med. Box $59.95 and Large Box $77.95. All prices when using the printed Flat Rate Boxes.

Yep, small flat rate box, regular mail was $16.95.
$42 insurance included in price.
Insurance for $200 value woul be about $16.00 extra.

They told me if the box fits in the small flat rate priority envelope, it woul be $23.99.

why don't you just go to the online post office and type in the address like you are going to ship it. before you get billed it will tell you what the cost is. there you go.
 
I sent some damascus to Australia last year and it was around 17$. Took right around a week, to and fro.
 
Small priority box to australia will be $23.95. If you're looking to spend less and use your own packaging, "First-Class Package International Service" is available for around $15 for a 10oz package

A more reliable but economical way is to ship first class international with registered. Should cost you around $25, with end to end tracking.
