Before it gets good, bad or ugly could you guys tell me the pro's and con's of shipping to the Great White North? I have a possible trade in the works.

Thanks

Do not ship illegal weapons. (autos, Balis, gravities)

Fixed blades are good to go.

Folders should be tightened if possible.

Never had a problem with the 30 or so knives I got from the States.

Express is my recommendation, its fast and wont sit in customs forever.

From my experience, the only possible problems are with folders. Customs can confiscate any with loose pivots that can be opened by centrifugal force. Otherwise, be patient if they are backed up a bit. They'll get through. The only extra paperwork is a simple customs declaration.

What are you thinking of shipping?

Being a native of the True North Strong and Free; I can tell you it is ok but not without some pitfalls. I have bought about 30 knives from the USA and have yet to have one not show up. (touch wood) I have had roughly 30% inspected by Customs and all have passed.

If you are sending an 'auto' and you are caught, it will be destroyed and the Canadian will be out of pocket.

If you send it USPS Express, it usually takes about a week to arrive and get through customs. I suggest if it's totally legal and legit; declare it as a knife. Camp Tool gets just as much scrutiny as a folding knife. Declare it as a "gift" so we don't get screwed by our over zealous Canadian Customs. They will want to tax it. If you send it by UPS - the trader will be screwed by huge customs fees and tax.

Another thing, if there is an exchange of postal money orders; recently a contact of mine in Salt Lake City had his bank tell him that my postal money order looked like a 'fake'. WTF! I bought it at a Canadian Post Office; how would a banker in SLC know it was a fake; give me a break.

So go ahead, we are nice people, we pay our bills and we have a need for steel too.

Esav Benyamin: I may send BM 750 Pinnacle, should I tighten up the pivot?

Many thanks to my blade brothers in the North, I just don't want a customs official getting a free knife, when I make a trade I like to do everything in my power to make sure it's a good transaction.

Thanks to all for the info.

If using money orders an INTERNATIONAL postal money order presents no problems being cashed. Normal American postal orders are cashable only in the US and I imagine the same is so for Canadian postal money orders.

Both types are available at the post office so insist on INTERNATIONAL money orders.

Definitely tighten the pivot. Do not tighten it to the breaking point so the blade won't open at all. Just so it's a two-hand open.
