Why won't people ship to Hawaii. Priority mail ships to Hawaii at no extra cost. I get stuff shipped from all over the U.S but members sell lower states only. I dont get it.

We will ship to you, and we will ship for free. The costs for Hawaii is calculated as any other state would be using USPS.

Tzac808,

I feel your pain as I live in Alaska and I deal with this madness all the time. Here is what I do if I find a knife that I want and the seller states he or she only ships to the lower 48 using USPS.

I contact them via email or pm and inform them that USPS ships up here at no extra charge using the flat rate boxes. Most of the time the seller(s) did not know this and in return they sell me the knife at no extra charge. Now I believe in this day and age that I should not have to do this as it has been advertised on TV and the internet every since the flat rate box came out.

The "lower 48 only" believe that if the package leaves the shore by air, the aircraft may enter the vortex of no return. Half the visitors to Hawaii never reach their destination.

I have shipped to Alaska and Hawaii many times with out issue. I do not know where the "lower 48 only" thing came from.

It comes from heavy and bulky items, being charged more to ship to both states. This obviously doesn't apply to flat rate boxes. So, it's just people get used to seeing higher charges stated, for Alaska and Hawaii for some items and mistakenly think it's across the board.

I've shipped USPS priority to Hawaii before. It's just as easy, and the same price, as shipping next door.

People write "CONUS only," "net to me," "F&F or add 3.5%," and a bunch of other silly stuff because they're repeating what they see other people do.

The reluctance to ship to the Nei is sometimes due to the sellers being half aware of some of the USPS restrictions. Anybody mailing a First Class or Priority Mail package from a post office in Hawaii knows the drill: you are going to be asked if your package contains liquids, volatiles or any other potentially hazardous material. It's concern over such items that explains why major online sellers will not mail to Hawaii many perfumes, ammunition, aerosol gun oils and solvents, furniture waxes and polishes, as well as some products utilizing lithium-ion batteries (or any loose batteries incorporating a pressurized flammable electrolyte). If major sellers are compelled to consider such restrictions, you can bet a large number of individuals and small "Ma and Pa" outfits know at least a little about the subject. I think this "little bit of knowledge" is what makes a lot of folks shy about shipping anything at all to the 50th state. As an example, my attempt to buy a knife from a mainland seller just a couple of days ago hit a roadblock when the seller asked for $300.00 to cover shipping. And no, the knife wasn't made of platinum or solid gold.

Believe that because UPS/FedEx charge more to ship out of the CONUS, many folks apply that reasoning to USPS services in ignorance...

Priority flat rate-anything else goes by zones and will cost more.
Have people refused shipping to you or are you going by their ads-CONUS or lower 48. Many just copy others ad formula and put little thought into it. When facts are explained they will ship.
Me I have always had problems with the sea shell to $ conversion rate :)
I have had many great deals with people from Hawaii and never had a problem with shipping or the person involved.

You live in Hawaii? You live in Alaska? You at an APO/FPO? I'll ship you a knife, and for the exact same price that I'll ship one to Iowa. Because the cost to me is the same. ;)
