Meanwhile in Russia…

Hi everyone!

In my second review I’d like to present another great knife of Brothers Shirogorov Inc. - the modification of Flipper 95 so-called Hati. The model was introduced in 2012 year and since then has become very popular among BSI knife-users in Russia. Actually main point of modification was shifting the material of front scale from titanium to carbon fiber for lighter weight keeping the same blade and handle size. There are also some other differences in construction, that I will share below in the review.

Knife Specs

All the overall dimensions are same to Flipper 95, so I just remind the main ones, others you can browse in my previous review (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1145896-Shirogorov-Flipper-95-T-pattern)

Opened length – 8.78” (22.3 cm)
Closed length - 5.03” (12.8 cm)
Blade length– 3.75” (9.5 cm)
Lock – frame-lock
Clip – not reversible, tip-up

Weight differs from 4.0 to 4.4 Oz. (115-125 g) depending on the scales and blade thickness.

Here is the photo with Chris Reeve Sebenza (also with CF scale)

My story

I have had several different Hati, now I have three… no, actually two, as my first Hati I gave to my dear wife - she liked it so much, that I cannot resist. She even returned me two of her other folders, telling she needed them no more after she has Hati :)

So I had nothing but to search a new Hati for myself. And I succeed!

New one with Cronidur 30 EVO blade, a bit thicker handle and a longer back spacer.

Actually let’s speak about the knife specification. As I said the general difference from the Flipper 95 is the front scale, that was firstly made from CF, now Shirogorov Brothers produce also with textured G10 scale – orange and blue for instance.

You can see that the blade can also have features.

With this feature we get a very light knife with relatively strong construction at the same time. How did they do that? The backspacer standoff was replaced with a titanium wholesome backspacer that makes the handle more solid and remove any play of the scale when you heavily hold the knife in hand. Another good perk of this decision – the balance of the knife was not affected negatively, it is one the BSI distinctive features – in all the knives they keep the balance straight above the forefinger counter.
The scale has nice long-wave pattern that grants a secure grip and also pretty look, especially when the scale is under the sunlight.

One more feature. The titanium back scale has machined pockets from the inner side, making the scale better balanced to the front scale. On the photo below is my second Hati, with G10 blue color scale and backspacer.

Third point, Hati works with bronze washers and the spacer-bush in the pivot point. The bush does not allow to overtighten the pivot screw, respectively there is no need to tune the pivot screw fixation when seeking a best flip with no free play of blade in opened state. Even without ball-bearings we got a nice and sure flip due to fine precise construction.

The frame-lock is all same to Flipper 95, has a steel lock bar insert. It also performs as a frame stabilizer when performing a heavy-duty job - a jut blocks the frame further movement as it hits the scale. I indicated it red on this photo.

I like this knife and on weekdays it is my office EDC as I wear suit and the knife perfectly sits on my trousers’ pocket, light and slim with rather trendy and classy look.
Here are mine and my dear wife EDC for instance.

PS: some of the photos used in the rewiev are made by my good friend Alex aka Shurikenn.

Good thickness of handle for a nice grip, light weight (125 gr.) and one of my favourite steel - BG42.

And how do I go about obtaining one of these beauties?

Geaurgeous lines and blade shape.

Just incredible work!
Please make a tanto blade, D.
rolf
Oh, I'd also be glad to see one. Actually I like the plain classic blades Brothers do, still making something fresh like tanto or serrated blade would be interesting, may be some day... ;)

In Russia it is like making an application for a knife on their web-site, and then long months of waiting. For example this blue Hati I waited for 7 months :) Or you can try to buy on the forum... usually paying double price :(

What's price?
