I've tried to do some research into this but I'm still pretty unclear on it. Is it true that the Shirogorov brothers don't take orders from customers in the US? They have some beautiful offerings, but unfortunately I want a pretty specific layout and either need to order it custom or have some pretty serious work done to have it the way I want.

I plan to attend blade show next year and I've heard they also sell some of their knives direct there and was just wondering how all of their direct purchasing works?

Any info on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I think I remember seeing somewhere on their site that they're no longer taking any special/custom orders because they're already backlogged for a couple years. People's circumstances change in that period of time, especially when you're talking about high-end, custom knives, so I can understand their point there.

If you really want a Shirogorov sometime in the near future, you will have to buy a regular model from a reseller (at double or triple the original retail value). If you do happen to find one of the customs like you see on the website, you'll probably be paying double or triple (again) what a regular production model costs, and it's not going to be a situation where you're likely to have any options or choices...you basically have to take what you can get, and that's if you can even find one for sale.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I love the style of their knives, but it's very difficult for me to find what suits me in a mid-tech / custom like that without ordering full custom. I'm a lefty, but I actually prefer a standard frame lock, just with a lefty clip. That's almost unheard of outside of production knives as far as I've seen.

Man - I don't know if they would do that for you, even if they weren't already working with a backlog. If I were in your shoes, I might wait till I find a knife I like, and then consider having a machinist drill/tap a hole on the other side for the pocket clip. Whatever you do, do not try carrying one as it is in your left pocket. Due to the shape of the handle and how far the blade reaches when folded, I actually ended up cutting the palm of my hand when I put my Flipper 95 in my left pocket.

As far as the knives are concerned, I highly encourage you to go for it. They're really in a league of their own. I don't know what kind of sorcery is going on in that machine shop, but I have my fair share of nice folders (I'm a raging Sebenzaholic), and there's nothing quite like a Shirogorov.

It's next to impossible to get a custom ordered shirogorov. Closest you will come is the division @$2000+. I tried for a leg time to get a custom order and found out you can't. I gave up and bought a shirogorov mod 95 with marbled cf and SRBS. While it's not custom, it's one of the smoothest and faster flippers I own. I would becareful with some of the Russian sites, you might not get what you want.

Try the classifieds or wait till blade is your best shot.

Sorry rev. Just wasn't sure where to put it.

That was actually what I figured I'd end up having to do. Anyway, I've got time to figure it out. I didn't even start looking at Shirogorov knives until I got my 0454 in and started looking into sinkevich and knives with similar style. But now I just can't help but want one even though it's so far above anything I've ever carried to this point.

You cannot order direct from Shirogorov's website which is unfortunate, because their prices are actually comparable with brands like ZT, MT, Strider, etc. For this reason, the prices in the US are 2-3x the retail of their knives. Supply and demand. In the knife market "hard to get" always = expensive.

I broke down and finally picked one up this summer from a Russian dealer at a fair price. TNK is the only authorized US dealer at this time. Warranty work and service is very difficult to get done and there's the language barrier...

There are some reputable Russian dealers like From Russia With Knives. My seller was extremely responsive and I got direct from Moscow in 5 days.

FWIW, my Hati is one of the finest knives I've ever handled or owned. When funds permit, I'll start hunting for another one.

I wouldn't call it a simple case of "supply and demand", the prices nearly tripled seemingly over night. Someone figured that it would be better to just jack the price up on US buyers. Shirogorov is still selling them for the same prices they went for initially. This is more like what the secondary market did to the brand. The same thing happened with Hinderer knives about 3-4 years ago.

Yeah, I guess I'll just have to pony up eventually. Until recently, I only knew of Shirogorov pricing based on what I had seen here so I just assumed they were $900+ knives to begin with. I was astounded when I saw the pricing on their website, and then extremely depressed when I saw that I couldn't put in an order myself.
