Shirogorov vs. George Muller/Andre Thorburn

Congrats on your order.

With regards to how many Andre makes of each knife. Pattern wise he makes a batch with the same pattern to make the process streamlined.

However, having been to his shop multiple times a year (I have a video showing some of his workshop on youtube) I have not once seen a knife identical to one another when it comes to his bolster work (unless multiple were ordered by a customer). You do get standard G10 options that look similar of coarse but you are still looking at very small quantities.

The Todd Begg knives I refer to using N690 is his custom pieces (Bodegas) having used the steel in numerous customs it is one of my favorite steels.

I think I watched your video yesterday! I saw some Thorburns on various sites that looked nice but didn't really speak to me. I'd still like to get a L51 as a 'beater', but when I saw this one on a site as well as Andre's instagram I had to have it. The gold on the bolsters is a nice touch.

Congrats PuddleMonkey. You should shoot video of your box opening/first few flips of your new Thorburn "experience"...and post it here. I'd bet us Thorburn freaks can predict what your reaction will be like, but it sure would be fun to see it. You're in for a great & memorable treat.

That particular photo is a George Muller, who I just discovered yesterday and know nothing about. I've tried to find Thorburns but they are so much more limited than the other S.A. makers, plus the ones I do find on sites are iffy on the bolster markings.

It took me about a year to find one I was happy with regards to the right aesthetics and size but I did. As far as I'm concerned it was well worth the wait. In fact after getting it I've strongly considered adding another.

Congrats!!

Just like you I had to look around a bit before finding the one that spoke to me, but as me I'm sure you'll find it was well worth the effort.

I went right to the man himself to get exactly what I wanted.
It took well over a year, but damn it was well worth the wait.

I'm way too impulsy to be waiting a year, no idea how you survived that. Good looking knife, never seen another similar.

When it comes to all things custom you just can't compare it to anything you simply can walk into your local mall, Walmart, or even ordering it from Amazon and expect it the same day or even next week. Although you may have found your knife in a relatively short period of time often more than not custom items can take even longer than a year. Personally I have waited anywhere from a number of months to a year fora number of different custom items such as the semi-custom Rockstead I've been waiting on since March of this year. In all cases I've never been disappointed because in the long run I'm getting exactly what I want and not just something off the shelf.

I just remembered I'm also currently waiting on a custom Beretta I ordered back in July. Currently it looks like it might be ready in January or February but since they originally thought it might be ready by the end of September it could be longer. Frankly there has been little time in the last 5 to 6 years I haven't been waiting for one custom item of one kind or another. Because it's not only the unique factor and the fact that your getting exactly what you want, but it's also the quality that factors into it as well. So in the end it's not about instant gratification, it's about satisfaction over a longer period of time if not for a lifetime.

Thorburns for the money are unbeatable. the flipping action is one of the strongest and most positive out there, the engraved bolsters and carved backspacers,+ theres many handle options as well. To polish those ti liners to a mirror cannot be an easy thing to do,and when its anodized on top of that it really looks great.theres much more work that goes into one of these knives than a shirogorov for similar price,id go Thorburn hands down.Much more unique and different than many knives out there...

I can't think of anything I'd want done to my Beretta.

Congrats, great choice, and that's exactly the one I ordered as well. It will include the WC tune up and mag guide. Unfortunately with the relocation of Berettas HQs this year they have a glut of back orders with no shipments since the early part of this year.

I would rather have an Andre Thorburn any day of the week. If I am going to spend THAT kind of $$, I would prefer to spend it on a custom, NOT a production knife.
