Shiva Ki Fighting Bowie

Joe that Would be awesome
Like Coop I Enjoy the emotions Ki's knives conjur
as for a striper stick I'll take a Lami Arra 1204 (if my wife is listening!) ..what sucks about NYC is we live in apartments the size of shoe boxes..so i use my buddies kit who has a nice spread out on long island

You heading to Blade?

Riad call me I will be up your way fishing striper in about 10 days. As for Blade sadly no. Wish I was but got a big project going on and it is fishing season. I would really like to have meet some of the fine people off the board maybe next year.

To hell with the knife, let's talk about fishing...LOL

Joe, that smallie is a killer, we have good small mouth fishing here but nothing that large, I was a meat fisherman in the 80s out of St.Marks Fl... Grouper and snapper, actually made good $$ fishing. We averaged 500-600 lbs per day, two days a week and sold the fish retail through our own seafood market. My reel of choice was Newell. Miss it some but now, I'd rather make knives and bream fish :)

Never knew there where so many fisherman on here. That is great Don what do you fish for mostly now ? and can i go to

Thanks, Joe. Those photos added a lot of info.

Fishing and knives go together like bread and butter :)
'Cept the fish you guys are catchin' are way too big!
In my book that borders on work. :D

This is more my speed, I'll crank them in all day.

Off the beach in Montauk last fall...the stripers went back ;)

Oh yeah...knice knife :D

Joe, I really like the blade on this one. The handle/finger design, jury is still out. Anxious to hear some more comments from you on it after more use.

The smallmouth really gets my attention! A four-pounder here in the Ozarks is considered a trophy. Great fish!

Thought that was a Paul Long sheath in the marlin picture....just a tail fin.

Thanks for the entertaining thread!

Nice knife and fish(es) both. I have a similar piece with a 12.5" blade. It's .24" thick at the ricasso with about a .06" edge. The edge on the clip is about .08".

I found the handle very interesting. It seems a lot of thought went into it. With my index finger in the groove, the ridge fits right in first joints of my second and third fingers and fades out as it passes above the tip of my pinkie. The handle is quite thick where the index finger fits, and provides a broad support with the second joint of my index finger lining up with the ~subhilt.

The thumb is supposed to wrap around the end of the scale as shown and the handling seemed considerably better this way, compared to resting the thumb elsewhere.

I haven't used the knife hard but don't imagine the choked up grip would be very comfortable for extended use. I don't think that's what it was designed for. Gripping behind the groove is comfortable.

Dave

Dave would love to see pics of whole knife.

I've noticed in other pics and in your pics that his cutting edges look quite thick. Is that the case, and if so does it hinder its performance?

I have not done any serious cutting yet but I like the edge it is very sharp. Matt Lamey posted that the ones he played with where sharp and held an edge well. Matt knows a good edge I have one of his pieces and it's real sharp.
After some use I will be better equipped to answer. Thanks

I'll try to post a larger pic tomorrow. The only one I have is this clipping size copy of one Shiva had taken. Having the kids take the pics of the knife in hand was definitely a better idea than my contortion exercise.

Blue gill, sunfish, catfish, crappie, goggle eye, small mouth and large mouth. Big Piney River and Realfoot Lake.

Come on down and we'll go

i like the looks of that knife except for the lanyard thing:o

judging by the pics it looks to be very blade heavy compared to what i would call a fighting bowie. is it?

the handle design is interesting also. after you posted the pics of it in hand i have taken more of a liking to it. i like the fact that it looks like it can do some chores unlike some of the trapping guard bowies.

thanks for the review:thumbup:

Pics of 12.5" version. Balance point is about 3/4" forward of the point where the edge starts. I thought it was blade heavy until Shiva told me to curl my thumb around the end of the scale. Doing that moved my hand about 1/4" forward and made it feel a lot better for quick movements.

No it is not blade heavy rather well balanced and quick in the hand. Thanks for the kind words

Man, Oh man, I love Shiva Ki's. I have wanted one ever since I stumbled on his knives a few years ago. I would like a large spirit blade and a fighting bowie. Both of the ones posted here make me drool.

A fisherman now a knifemaker, What a life.:)

Thanks for posting the pics of those great Shiva Ki Bowies. Shiva made me a custom fighter over 20 years ago when I was still in High School. My parents had to write Shiva a letter giving him permission to make a knife for a teenager. It's still one of my favorite knives. And yes it has a wicked edge.
