Shock cord for firesteel retention

Very nice way to keep the firesteel together...
I was about to say the same thing about keeping survival stuff in your pack... at least your fire making kit should be kept with you at all times... and this way is better to make sure it does not fall...

Thanks for the ideas!!!

I use shock cord on the firesteels I sell, I find it's the best way to retain the firesteel when it starts to wear down.

Shock cord works good, that's what I put on all our fire steels for our sheaths with loops a couple of years ago. I just used the little clippy thing that comes on the cord on the LMF rods from the factory.

I just did that to my homemade kydex rig attached to my ESEE3 sheath I did the same to my lansky dogbone sharpener kydex and shock cord. Great thread .

For anyone who doesn't do this, or something similar, learn from me. I just recently lost a fire steel while out training. I thought my Leatherman sheath would be enough to secure it, but I was wrong:grumpy:

That sucks. I always thought the friction hold was enough on most of my sheaths, but it's such an inexpensive bit of insurance to add the cord that I put it on all of my sheaths now.
