The dam shocks were so bad today I thought my heart stopped . The blue arks were shooting over a inch and constant as in 10 zaps a second . I took my shoes off and then I was ok why??? What do i need to do to stop this cuzz some times its dangerous when a knife is sharp and you get zapped and jump a foot. I have ruined a couple blades because of this prob;lem . All help is welcome thanks kellyw

Get some anti-static spray (the kind women use on their skirt) and spray the back of your belt with it with the grinder running. It lasts a long time and has no risk of getting caught up in your grinder like dangling wires and other solutions for the static problem.

Change your shoes. There is an industry standard to static dispative shoes...the soles in these shoes...well, they dissipate static electricity. This is important in many industries...such as munitions and electronics for example.

They idea is that as static electricity builds up on your body, it is safely discharged before the zapping starts.

You might not need to buy new shoes...perhaps a different pair will work just fine.

When I buy new safety shoes for the shop...I always get them with and ESD sole...and never have problems anymore.

Try a websearch for Static dissiapative shoes:

Then visit your local shoe store.

Goos luck, Rob

After making things like static discharge grounding straps with a one megohm resistor , and other devices, I settled on a simple piece of costume jewelry chain stuck in one shoe. It drags behind me just enough to touch the floor. Problem solved.

Thanks everyone great advice I will be doing several things that you all advised me of. kellyw

put a couple of nails through the sole of your shoe. No really hammer a couple of nails through on the inside of the shoe, under the removable insole thingy

[edit]: doubles as cleats too :D
