I have never been close with Akitas. They seem to really bond to their owners, and not too much fond of anyone else when they mature. I bet they make great companions. My lab's name is Gracie, and she would attack lick any intruder and force them to play fetch with her. At least we could track the slobber trail of any perpetrator to have them apprehended after the fact. Beautiful dogs! Enjoy and value their undaunting love.
Tasha was just like your Gracie. Everybody in the world was her best friend - and extra love was reserved for those that were a little standoffish around dogs.

These two pups are a little more cautious around strangers, but once I indicate it is okay, they go into lovable, wiggly puppy mode.
We just started puppy obedience classes and will be socializing the heck out of them. My hope is that they will overcome their breed's reputation for dog aggression and also become trustworthy off-leash, at least in the backcountry.
