I`m trying to locate a place outdoors where we could have a "Shooting Gathering" this Spring. Anybody know of a place? Buffalo Rock is supposedly open again, (for now), but it`s crowded and kind of pricey at $30 for the day.

One of the nice things about Buffalo is you can kind of make a whole day out of it and shoot rifles, pistols and shotguns for that one fee.

Unless something has changed, you can also picnic.

what kind of ranges are you thinking about?
I have a 50 yd backstop out back.....

That would be ideal, if y'all could gather at someones place, shoot, BBQ, show off knives and do some trading.
Wish I lived closer and could participate in something like this.

Are Illinois folks still allowed in Kansas? ROADTRIP!
A popular shooting area that would be available are any of the corners along 63rd street in Chicago. Very popular area for gunfire. Not to busy in the morning (after dawn).

Willow Slough in Morroco, Indiana right on the border of Illinois. Free, large, nice benches, covered firing lines. up to 200 yds. Pistol, Rifle and shotgun..plus great fishing May thru October. My Jeep seats 4. Boat seats 3. There is camping!

any time you want to come visit, you are welcome.
I also have a "fair sized" smoker, so it would not be difficult to feed as many as chose to show up.
plus both coal and propane forges, a couple anvils, some tongs, plenty of room to camp if you imbibe a bit too much, a pair of very friendly dogs, and if you feel that you have too much $$ burning a hole in your pocket, an Indian casino 5 miles down the road.....

There's the Sycamore Sportsmans Club but there isn't much info online and they don't have a website.

From what I've found, the price for the public is $10 from 12:30PM to 4PM on weekends.

I'll try to get more info. I'd love to participate in a shooting get-together.

EDIT: There is a public range run by the Michigan DNR just south of where you do the Michigan meetings.

this is interesting. i sense everywhere will be a hike for me, but i am now subscribed, so i can stay in the proverbial loop....

If we went to Sharonville DNR area that would be really close - it is about 20-30 miles south of the Grass Lake area - that would be ok with me -

No cabins at Ottawa, but there are a few hotels lol -

Do you have a place near Grass Lake, M?

I have access to my mothers trailer/cottage near there. It's on Little Portage. About three miles north of Grass Lake.

Beautiful area!!

I wish I had a place there! I live in central Illinois and drive up periodically to attend the JK Knives gatherings that we hold in the Grass Lake area.

We are looking to have a gathering where we could all bring a firearm and shoot at a range, and it looks like there is a DNR range just south of Grass Lake in the Sharonville area -

I will have to make sure and ping you and let you know the details of the next gathering - nothing like steaks on the wood-fire....

Well even if we don't go shooting apparently eye protection would have been a good idea at the last one. Explosions and all you know.
