I am wondering what others may be using for air filtration/dust collection in their shops. With spring close at hand, I will be able to open the doors, but in winter I must keep the shop tightly closed. I am considering a hanging air filtration unit from Grizzly.

There werew plans for one using house hold filters. Make a box on one side make a rack to hold 5 of your favorite size filters. I used a blower mtr that i found in my junk pile. Mount the motor so the exhaust is opposite the filters. If set up hanging from the ceiling the exhaust will create a downdraft over your grinder. This blows the dust and stuff down away from your dace. Works well for me.Change the outside when it gets dirty by rotating filters and add a new one on the inside.

I made a shop air filter using plans from an article by Jerry Busse in in the May/June 1990 issue of American Woodworker. Here is a PDF of the article. If the link doesn't work, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

I bit the bullet and looking at many, many models- both homebrew and factory made- and bought a unit from Grizzly. It has remote control, which I thought would be very handy since it is mounted on the ceiling. Thanks to all who took the time to help.

I use a radial fin blower with metal ductwork to collect and discharge grinding dust directly outside.Radial fins don't load up like sqirrel cage blowers do. Years ago I used the plastic pipes and a large shop-vac system like Home Depot and Sears sold but the shop-vac caught fire. I also have a passive system where a high quality filter is connected to the home furnace air return. This low p.s.i. draw collects some of the small particles in the air and works 24 hrs a day because I run the blower full time. I change those filters often to keep the particles out of the rest of the house.
