Well on Friday i was changing my brakes on my mini cooper out side my work and the fastenal guy was out side his store testing some new cleaning stuff on his truck so we started talking and at the end of the conversation he pointed to this large roller convayer by his building and said somthing to the affect of man i really need to get rid of that thing do you want it. it is about 2 feet wide and 12 or so feet long maybe more. the height is adjustable and looks solid like a rock. so i was like o man i would love it. these things are pricey and also i need a good bench. so i'm going to leave the rolers on it and bolt some plywood to the top and bam a sweet bench that can hold my grinders and forge and other stuff. it will be so sweet i can't wate to set it up tomorrow with my friends help as i have a busted hand and cant do much. here is a picture of the type of conveyor I'm talking about. but mine looks more sturdy and is taller. I think i lucked out :D

I see your injury has allowed you to be a night owl like me. That is definitely a sweet score. You'll have to post some pics when it is all set up. I just built myself a bench last week for $35.00. Just 7 studs and one 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" particle board.

BTW not to hijack your thread but I was wondering if you had any of that Jade Micarta hanging around that I might be able to trade you for. I have a few different exotic wood scales. They are not stabilized though.

I do have some sticks of the micarta hanging around that i could par with i think. what you got that you want to trade. we all need to get together some day and do a hammer-in at my shop. now that i got my press all pimped out we can do some Damascus, that would be sweet.

That'd be a heck of a score, and heck of a $$$ tag if they were 52100 :D. Probably more like mild steel as I doubt they see the loads and precision tolerances needed in bearings. It will make a nice table, however.

I have 6 different sets, all are about 1.5"x6" and about 3/8" thick. They are Yaya, Wormy wenge, Purpleheart, Redheart, Mango, and Paduak. I only need a set that is at least 1.25"x4" and 1/4" - 3/8" thick. I have a Santoku that I think would look great with that jade micarta.

A mini hammer-in sounds great. Let us know when your hand is ready and we'll set it up.

JT, You're always lucking out with stuff. (Your kamikaze skateboarding accident doesn't count.)
Life sure is getting good, now, right? ;) Mini-Cooper, secret steel store, new workbench, new hottie.....

I will go and snap some shots of it out side right now. its nice. and yes i do have a HOTTIE :D

Do you have a table saw? That would be great for cutting really long heavy things.

You might want to take the rollers off and bolt directly to the rails, as it will be a little more solid, and you just might want to later drill through the top for through bolts for mounting stuff. It would be difficult to do with the rollers in the way.
I've got essentially the same legs on one of my benches.
I went with three thicknesses of 3/4" plywood, glued and screwed together, with Formica on the surface for easier cleaning.

Nice score!

O that sounds good, that should make a very sturdy bench. o man i excited, now i can take my grinder off the kitchen table and retire the table to finish work.

Jarod, that's a really nice base for a workbench. It's hard to believe that one can get something like it absolutely free. I made my workbench a couple months ago from an old bed frame, which happen to be made from 1/8" thick 1"x1" angle. I cut the frame, had to buy 2 more 3' pieces of angle at Home Depot, bolts, nuts and washers, paint and 3/4" 2'x4' plywood.
By the way, I saw on your videos that you were grinding outside. Could you please, show the pictures of your portable KMG (or was it NWG) setup, while it is still portable and not bolted to the new bench?
