Shop cat causing problems

Got a little wild there Nic! Keep those fingers attached!

Haha:). Yea, thumb is just starting to grow back...I'm thinking of getting those leather finger guard thingies that protect your fingers while you are grinding:).

My old lady has asked a few times why i dont take the dog out to the shop when i am home alone and working. I gave her the same response Stacey mentioned, they dont make respirators, goggles, and boots for dogs. I wont breath the dust so i dont want him to either. Also the fact that his paw pads would be exposed to possible hot scale on the floor and metal filings and slivers and i wouldn't risk his safety. Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys said "a dope trailer is no place for a kitty Ricky!" and a shop isnt really a place for an animal either in my opinion.

Catapult
hence the name
Blade smiths have been plagued by cats for centuries. The war applications of the catapult was just a side benefit.

If you toss 'em over a body of water makes it less likely they will find their way home.

Don't worry about the loud noise they make as they shoot through the sky. That's just their way of saying thank you and that they are having one heck of a good time.

Absolutely the best (and most horrible) cat solution I have ever heard!!! I was, and still am, laughing my butt off:). Although...I don't think cats are that bad...

Wowbagger-apult. :D

How about a troll-buchet?

Nothing like doing something that requires complete attention and steady hands and having a cold dog nose shoved into the back of your leg/thigh...

Hence, I no longer wear shorts while tooling leather....

Not funny.

Bill,
I guess you haven't had one of the little balls of sunshine pee all over your best dress shirt when it was lying on the bed at a friend's house.

It's just their way of saying hello.
The catapult is just my way of saying hello back.

Do you suppose your dog will respect those and keep his distance ? :)
I'm just saying . . .

I'm thinking the leather would be better placed in a leash for the dog.

Try a 50+ pound pit that's only about 9 months old, full of energy and likes to chew on everything in sight. Luckily, or unlucky, she's very smart and learns quick what not to destroy, unlucky she gets board and inquisitive and gets into trouble while figuring out what new thing she can destroy. Thankfully I've got her trained to get out of the shop when I need her to.

Animals should not be allowed in the shop. It's bad for the animals, and it could be bad for you.

The bigger concern is that the shop is a really bad place for a cat. The dust, chemicals, and contaminates are all bad to breathe, and some are toxic. The problem is made worse by how cats clean themselves constantly. I don't think 3M makes a cat respirator or a cat hazmat suit.

A while back, I found a steel spiral chip from my drill press clinging to our cat's fur. I must have tracked it in from the shop on my boot sole, and then he picked it up while rolling around on the floor. After that, I started taking off my boots in the garage (where the cat can't go) instead of the foyer. If he would have swallowed it or got it caught in his throat while cleaning himself it probably would not have ended well.

Even when my shop's clean, it's still pretty filthy. There's metal/wood/plastic chips, dust, etc. all over the place. I can't imagine having a cat loose in there. I let my dog hang out outside the shop door when it's nice out. He'll usually just sit there and chew on a nyla bone. But even he's not allowed inside. Too much dangerous stuff for him to get into.
