Shop Music

I'll start.

This is what is on my ipod now:

JJ Cale
Paul Wall (my current favorite for grinding)
Chamillionare
The Beatles
Queens of the Stone Age
Lil Wayne
Paul Oakenfold
Gregory Isaacs
Sean Paul
Weezer
Tom Waits
CKY
White Stripes
Eagles of Death Metal
Them Crooked Vultures
Steve Miller Band
Soulja Boy
Tool
Greatful Dead live sets
downloaded rap mix tapes

I'll think of more in a minute... it is the smallest one (ipod nano?) so not a lot on it. If I could listen to my records and cds I could add a couple thousand more albums to the list. I have just about every classic rock album worth having, a massive classical music collection, old country, punk, rock, house, drum and bass, lol, I have eclectic taste.

I have a 6 disc CD player in my shop. Right now, I've got Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Clapton, Ted Nugent, Wade Hayes, Brooks & Dunn, and Pantera in it. Heck of a mix, I know. ;) :)

Nice mix!

I need to put some Pantera on mine, Vulgar Display of Power is one of my all time favorites! Heck I need to get the guitar out, I used to know how to play "Cemetary Gates" besides the solo, lol.

If you like Clapton you probably like JJ Cale... he even wrote a couple of songs Clapton covered, Cocaine being the big one.

Waka Flocka...

My sister told me to check his stuff out and I forgot to.

Cool... Where is he from? My sister is down in TX.

I like that video.

Cool stuff there! I am a huge Beatles fan, if I had to pick a favorite they might be it.

I have most of the stuff you listed, need to check out Foxy Shazam and dropkick. In my last band we played a couple of Social D covers, they rock.

If any of you are into the guitar you have to check out Modest Mouse!

Classical mix - relaxing background stuff - with the occasional Marty Robbins serenade.

Big fan of Foxy Shazam - my little brother's band opened for them a couple years ago before I ever heard of them. They put on a fantastic show, especially for being a fairly new band. They took some time to get into but they're one of my favorites now.

Dropkick Murphys will always have a place on my ipod... :D

I listen to everything, EVERYTHING!!! When I'm working on the car I like to put something nice and ambient in the background while I need to concentrate, so I might pop in some trance or something.

EDIT: My apologies, I didn't realize posting youtube links made in-thread videos now =D

When I'm driving, I like symphonic power metal. It's a genera that most people in the US dont even know about, although it's pretty big in Europe. It's also very demanding on your speakers, because you need to be able to produce both heavy pounding thumps and power rifts, as well as classical strings and wind, at the same time =D

One of my personal favorites is Apocalyptica, a finnish band that is living proof that the Cello is the most versatile instrument on the planet. 4 Cellos and a drummer, and they sound like nothing else.

Here are two songs from their latest album 7th symphony

And some of their older stuff

Another band I absolutely love is Within Temptation, and I am looking forward to their newest album coming out in a few weeks.
Their last album was a live album with accompanying DVD of the concert, and it made me sad to know that most of these bands will never tour the US
Within Temptation singer Sharon Den Adel also happens to have one of the best live singing voices of any current female vocalist.

And speaking of Sharon Den Adel, she also did the vocals for a great song by Armin Van Buuren, one of the trance artists who along with DJ Tiesto and Paul Okenfold top my list of stuff to put on in the background when working on stuff.

Another band that falls into the symphonic power metal genera is the band Nightwish. They just went through a singer change, their original lead singer, Tarja Turunen being the classical opera singer.
These three are from their newest album with their new vocalist (albiet one is instrumental, and another is primarily sung by the guitar player who, despite having a great voice, isnt a vocalist for the band)

Justin,
So far I've checked out at least a song or two by everyone, cool stuff there.

Did Apocalyptica put out a Metallica cover album a long time ago? They are cool, I need to check out more of their music.

Once I figure out how to go about it I'll post some of my own trance and drum and bass, I think you'd like it.

Thanks for sharing!

no this wasn't filmed in the 80's or even the 90's

Yes, apocalyptica's first album was a cover of metallica songs just played with 4 cellos, all acoustic.

I just saw them in concert this last week, best concert i've ever been to. They rock so much it's not even funny!

Also, they do metallica better than metallica does metallica these days =) They played almost every song from their new album 7th symphony + a couple older songs, and 5 metallica songs. Master of Puppets, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Seek and Destroy, Nothing Else Matters, and Fight Fire with Fire

The shop is in the garage which part of the house so I used headphones with a MP3 player attached on top. Serves as hearing protection to a small degree. When I really need to protect my hearing I have some noise cnacelling headphones that you can also plug the MP3 into.

As far as to what I listen to, well just about everything from Pavarotti to Panthera depending on my mood and type of work.

Patrice,
I was looking at those headphones the other day, as soon as they are in the budget they are mine!

Here, lets start the morning off right!
