Got a call from my Dad last week and he is moving to a assissted living place due to his health getting worse.Donna and me will be flying to Portland,Or. January first. She will stay and come home on the 5th but I will be staying at least a week if not longer to get all his belongings sold and the house ready to sell,Plus we will get him all moved and setteled into his new place.
Then I will be driving his old "71 Chevy 4X4 and pulling a "90 Corsica back across country to get home.He wanted us to have the vehicles and some other items so I said fine.At least I will have a dependable truck again that I can work on myself if need be;)
But this is not going to be much fun due to the time of year. All the passes will be covered with snow and I really don't want to tow a car across the mountains in snow.So I may end up driving to Southern California before cutting across through the desert.I won't know any set leaving date or travel plans until I get ready to leave Portland. This is to bad as I would have liked to make the trip more fun by stopping and visiting a few of you guys,if you didn't mind.Plus if I take the southern route I may stop by the Alamo museum and check out some Bowies. But this will all depend on the weather and how long it takes me to get everything squared away.
I am not going to enjoy being away from Donna and the girls this long at all,but I have to do it and am glad to help my Dad out after al he has done for me over the years.
So if I don't answer emails to quick at the present I am trying to get things caught up in the shop and available knives moved for extra money on the road. Then in January I won't be able to answer any or be on the forums untill I get Home.Boy I will miss you guys also.
Better get off here and get to work.Almost got one done to show off tonight...

If you decide to take I40 across Arizona, I am about one hour south of Flagstaff, if you need to lay over or anything.

If you're taking the southern route and looking for a warm shower and a clean bed, let me know.

Interestingly we are one day's drive south of Portland. Flagstaff is one day from our house.

The las vegas knife show is Jan 17,18,19. Maybe you stop for that...

I forgot:footinmou , sorry about your Dad's health.

Bruce, I hope your Father settles into his new home and makes some good friends there!
Take care of yourself and have a safe trip!!!!!

Have a safe trip, Bruce. I hope everything works out O.K. with your father. In a way I kind of envy you your return trip if you come back through California and the Southwest.

Bruce, hope that all goes well with your trip and your
Father is settled in ok, If you are taking I 10 east
(the shortest way) figure the miles, you will pass
with in two blocks of my place, PLEASE STOP and see me.

Bruce your job won't be any fun but you are doing what we're meant to do for our folks. They sure have done a lot for us...

I wish you and your father well, and hope he settles in quickly. If he's like my dad at all he'll be telling stories in no time and the back slapping, or senior equivalent, will begin. :D

Be careful on your trip and take your time. You will meet a lot of great knife people and I hope you're willing to accept their open arms; we all know everyone is going to let you find a clean bed and a shower. I really kind of envy the drive home, I need a road trip real bad. This work crap is really about only good for money and insurance! So keep thinking about the poor slobs like me working at actual jobs while you're eyeing all that beautiful country! You'll have some fun too.

Dave

Best wishes for your Dad.
Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do...
I just wish I could help :(
If you take 'the scenic route' & swing by the big apple, you know you've got a place to stay.
& remember to take that Dragon Slayer off your belt before you get to the airport!
Godspeed,
Wally

Bruce,

All the best for your Dad - Safe journey for you & Donna. With all those knives being confiscated at the airports, make sure you don't add to them!:D

Thanks for all the kind wishes from everybody.I hope I will be able to stop and see a few of you guys as that would make for a fun trip. The route I take home will just depend on the weather when I get ready to leave.I will try and get to a computer before I leave ( Dad has one so maybe we will have it up and running when he gets moved as he can still have it were he is moving)And let you guys know which way I am heading and see who I can stop and see...
Thanks again for all your offers and kind words.

Bruce-

I'm sorry to hear about the rough times, but I'm glad to hear you're coming out this way.

I was going to say that I'd come down to Portland and shake your hand beings as it's only about an hour and 20-30 minutes from my place...but since you're coming the the show...I'll just see you there!!! :D

Looking forward to it,
Nick

Bruce,

There's some things in life we just have to stop and take care of, and unfortunately there not always pleasant. Take care and have a safe trip. You'll be missed around here too.

Bill
