Shop shut down and a long trip ahead....

I know how rough it can be, to put a loved one into someone's care...it nearly tore my mom apart when we had to put my Dad into a Nursing Home. But it had simply gone beyond her ability to watch him, since he had become a total invalid, bed- and chair-ridden, and she was in her late 50s, at the time.

Still, it seems like he's at least going in under his own power, so that will help immensely. My wife's folks live in a fairly neat facility up in Kansas, and they've made a ton of new friends in the last couple of years, so it's all good.

Have a safe trip, Bro, and if you think you might get around the Dallas area and need to crash (or just want to swing by and say, "Howdy," drop me an email, and I'll give you my number and directions. We ain't got much, but what we have, has a guest bedroom with a (reasonably) soft bed, and you're welcome to it!

I'm at kalindras@bigfoot.com, if you think you might want to...just let me know what road you're on, and I'll get you directions! Otherwise, have as good a trip as you can, given the circumstances--remember how pernicious the weather out here can get...

Good luck on the trip Bruce. If you run into any bad snow and are in the mountains,put the truck into 4-lo so that the engine will act as a power brake. Just make sure to take it out of 4-wheel drive if on dry pavement or it will tear up the drive train.
Be careful and sorry to hear about your Dad.I dread the the thoughts of what may come with mine.

Hey The Bruces will get to meet at last. Portland is only 5 hours from here. If you can come down to my shop for a day or 2 while you are there. I will at least meet you in Salem at the show. Looking forward to meeting by buddy at last. Bruce
 
Many thanks for all the kind words and offers of places to stay everybody.I think this will be a fun trip back after all.The way it looks I will be taking a few of you up on the warm bed and shower as long as it is still available when I leave Portland.I will take everybodies numbers with me and let you guys know when and if I will be by.I can use Dad's computer to keep in touch here untill a few days before I leave so I won't be missing you all to much.

I can't wait to get to meet the other half of the Bruce and Bruce team finally.Plus going to the Salem show.Steve,I will email you and set something up,I would love to stop by and visit and stay at your place for the evening and talk knives,Then I believe I will drop down through California and cut across at the Mohave dessert then drop down to I10 and cut across to Phoenix,So Gib I WILL STOP BY,Then go visit Bob Hankins and I Talked to Tim Hancock today and he said he would be glad to have me stop in for a visit.Pinoy,I will give you a holler while I am in Portland,plus while I am there I will be visiting Raymond Richards..Heck maybe we should all get together at the Salem show for lunch or something,That would be cool...

Kalindras,Thanks for the invite,That sounds great to me,I can make it home in a long days drive from there.I am not sure if I will go to the Alamo but I would like to,But if I stay in Dallas It would be out of the way,Maybe I could visit the Alamo then go up to Dallas then Home.
I better take allot of pictures myself and keep a bunch of notes as I will probably be having to much fun to remember everything I get to see and do.I know I will be missing Donna and the girls,but This could take a little while to get home if I visit to many people.
Finally getting excited about this:D trip home.
