Shop Tour - as promised

It was a pain in **** to work on it as it needs to be aligned quite perfect. I'm not good at machine building and it took too much time to align, join etc. All were cost about 300 dollars or less. Wheels were milled in a repair shipyard (cost about 100) . The motor was from the previous grinder I made 4 years ago (bought for 75). Pulleys were ordered from Internet (about 60). Bearings were about 40 dollars. Rest of the work is done by me (cost : 10 sleepless nights + 50 cup of coffee + blah blah :p )

All in all it is a pleasure beyond words to build a machine like this. Tomorrow I'll go to that shipyard to mill a 10" contact wheel .

... Would you have any plans drawn up for it or something similar?

I dont have anything sketched, all info needed is in this great forum and on internet. Just googled "home made grinder" and found http://groups.msn.com/HomeorshopmadeGrinders.

I guess mine is no different than others. As you start to build you will face some problems and find solutions yourself (sometimes these solutions are, as my tension adjustment antis of some design problems, so unique) or get some help from BF or anywhere on internet. Most of the people are afraid from the efort spent on these kinds of projects, some look to you as you are a crazy person. However I strongly suggest if you are building a shop for an art you should build some of the euipment on your own. It adds some flavor to your creation, also you can adjust a machine or a tool later for your liking easily if you made it at the begining...
