Shop Tour ~ Justice Custom Knives

Thanks Tony! Hope you're feeling better!

Don, Yup, that is one of Sid's hammers. We paid dearly for it...but it will be worth every penny. She was made in 1904...I have no doubt it will run better than when she was new...

Darrel,
Awww Man...you caught me...I got a high backed chair for when my back gets tight...and I got an old rocking chair for when I need to think things over...or eat lunch...You gotta have them creature comforts when you are a big man....

OK...so here are the six I am working on...the two on the left were forged side by side...out of the fire they were within an eighth here and there to being identical...(they have had HT and are awaiting finish)...I have treated them as brother and sister...the others are simple working blades...nothing fancy...

Guys,

My shop is 20' by 20'.

ONe of the first things I did was to line the walls of the HOT part of the shop. I used thin plate steel (recycled)> So the entire corner where I forge...is protected to about 4 feet high...above is all pegboard....to the ceiling line...

Eventually I will close in the ceiling with sheet metal...above the forge...and include a big hood to draw heat out of the shop...

The bench my grinder sits on is also a recycle...an old oak pallet...that I stripped down and turned into a bench...as is my sheath making bench...

My main bench(the clean one) has two Wilton vises on it...was amde with new wood! A big deal in my world. The frame is all 2X6 studs...the legs all 4X4's....the top is a pair of 2X12's sheeted with 3/4" ply...It is a hell for sturdy bench...Wiht the leftover...I built the jewelers bench...but wanted a way to kepp it clean from floating dust....so I hinged a lid on it...

There is still a lot of room...but only becasue I planned it very carefuly...

Someday hope to have a mill...and a better HT set-up...but the basics are in...

It sounds like you planned for a while to get it right.
Those easy chairs do come in handy!!

Does plywood make a good work bench top Shane? My bench looks disgusting and I want to build a new one but the finances kinda eliminate the possibility of a nice solid wood top. I have heard that MDF is not bad either.
Shane or anyone else?
( I do not mean to hijack your post );)

Dude,

I used 3/4" Ply with a finish side....2 coats of primer...4 coats of Gunsmoke gray latex....

It works just as good as masonite...when you ain't got no masonite!

I will put a masonite top on it when bread is available...

you could try pricing out some galvanized sheet metal, about 18-20 gage it's what I used on mine, it's still good
and it's been in use about 18 years or so now,
prices are I'm sure up..
but it wears good and won't burn :)
