Shop tour.

Thanks for posting pics of all your tools, its always cool to see what knifemakers use and how much money and effort really goes into what they do.

Man, thats something to be proud of! Really nicely put together.

haven't seen an air hammer with no shock absorption material under the anvil in....ever. lol. I'm guessing its not so high powered?

i used to work at a foundry next to some blacksmiths (Loken Forge). They had a pneumatic hammer from an old lead factory. They had to cut a square out of the concrete under the anvil. Dig down 4 feet, and fill it with compacted sand. The hammer would squeeze 4" square stock down to 1" in a couple of blows.

edit: bigger than i remember

Actually, it does have a layer of horse stall mat under it, so it's not sitting directly on the concrete. I wanted to make a nice deep foundation for the hammer, but it didn't happen. If the pad it's sitting on ever breaks, it won't be too much trouble to remove it and do it right.

This morning I did a little bit of forging for the first time in the new building, and the power hammer started walking across the floor. I'm going to have to anchor it to the floor soon...

Wow, I wish I had a hammer like that.

Wow that looks great!
How are you going to heat your shop in the winter?

Before winter comes, I intend to close in and insulate the end of the building where all my finishing tools are. For heat, I think a friend is giving me a potbellied stove. I hope it's efficient. In our house we heat with a Vermont Castings woodstove, which is very efficient, if all the gaskets are in good shape....
