Shopping for a purse...don't look if you consider yourself a man.

Coach bags are entry-level collectible fashion and they are damn good bags. That is why they are so popular. They are the SAKs of collectible fashion accessories.

Because they are collectible and extremely popular, there is a huge counterfeiting industry. We live in walking distance of Chicago's Korea Town with store after store selling nothing but counterfeit Coach bags. Coach counterfeits are like Terminators:

Kyle Reese: The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy, but these are new. They look human... sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot.

If you don't know the merchandize, shop at a Coach store or Coach outlet.

Do you have background in graphic arts? Do you visit art museums when you're on vacation? Are you interested in designer fashion? If not, let your wife choose. Ask her to go somewhere she would only go to keep you company, and take her to a Coach store instead. If you are lucky and find a good saleswoman, get her business card and give her your wife's email address and phone number. A good saleswoman wants to save you money and knows how to do it.

Pour moi, I am waiting without much hope for the return of Coach's SAKs.

Congrats on anniversary #9 and a happy marriage. You both have already beaten all the statistics.

Coach does great leather. And it lasts; she can take it to whatever restaurant you take her to for your 20th.

Thanks also for your service. Sounds like you each have a great spouse. + Many more.

Congrats on the 9 years. We'll have 10 in a few months.

My wife's first upscale bag was a Coach. Still going strong 4 years later. Most expensive bag - Gucci for about 2,500. Luckily che likes the midrange bags these days. Around 400-600. Although she did get a new Gucci wallet for her birthday this year that set us back about 800 bucks.

She finagled me into buying a Coach manbag this summer. I was going to buy a slightly smaller Mountainsmith than the one I had for about 40 bucks, but she insisted that I needed to upgrade. So we went to the Coach store and she bought me a 500 dollar Coach man bag. I keep telling myself it's kinda like Jack Bauer's bag, but I think I'm the only one who sees the connection.

Ahh well. If it's the one she likes, she'll love you for it. Stay safe.

and is that a ridiculous amount of money for a purse?

In terms of quality, god yes. When you buy most designer brands, you aren't paying for the build quality product, I suppose. All of the designer purses I have seen were no better built than any department store Sub $100 purse.

My wife has a taste for Tiffany jewelry. Luckily she hates gawdy things, so all the stuff she likes is in the 100-300 dollar range and silver not gold. she just likes the pretty blue boxes and getting to own Tiffany jewelry. pretty baller around these parts, and I get talked up to all her friends and family as a great husband who buys his wife Tiffany jewelry :)

now my desire for S.T. Dupont lighters and nice watches on the other hand may well ruin me one day. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but may well do so soon. Used of course (watches anyway).

I did sell the sports cars and drive a lowly 2008 chevy work truck now. I think i'm making progress.
