Hello everyone this is My first post here i hoped i placed this thread right

Im coming To new york city in april is there any place To buy a regular pocket knife?
Even tho i love Damascus Steel i just want something simple like s&w , böker, gerber, colt etc.

Best regards from sweden

That thread is obsolete. NYC is a completely different place now, you cn get in serious trouble for carrying a knife there.

Be careful to keep blade length under 4", fixed or folder. I wouldn't take a chance carrying a fixed blade. Folders with locks can get you in trouble. Basically, stick to SAKs or traditional slipjoints.

oh crap, sorry man I totally forgot about the knife laws....

Yeah, its one of the worst place in the country currently as far as knife laws unfortunately, lots of companies and dealers won't even ship there.

Ooooh we only Will go for vacation so the knife Will be in its packaging all the time its just a souvenir:(

thank you, its appreciated that you also told me the laws.

Here in sweden you will get fines and such for carrying a knife.
But its just a souvenir for me hehe.

So i guess the blade will be around 8 Cm.
you know any shop where to get em? any hunting shop or something?

Try Paragon Sports on Broadway and 18th st..

Anything sold there should be legal.

Thanks i will write it down!

Appreciate all the help!.
Anything else u can recomend doing in new york?.
Brooklyn Brewery and Seeing New york Rangers is allready on the list hehe.

Taking the knife in a check in suitcase would be allright?

Only place I'd recommend is Paragon, as it's the only store that still stocks a lot of knives that I know of. You can see a selection of their stuff here - http://www.paragonsports.com . Search knives and it will show you some of the custom and factory knives they stock, they usually have more that don't make the website. Prices are high, close to full retail.

Also many stores like Sports Authority, Target, etc.... might have a couple of Swiss Army knives in stock, but it wouldn't be worth a trip around the city, just pop your head into a few stores if you see them though, you might get lucky.

J B Prince deals in high end kitchen knives and cookware, if you might like a look - http://www.jbprince.com/ .

The Bronx Zoo, Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Natural History are a nice trip. Metropolitan Museum of Art has an arms collection.

www.yelp.com is helpful for restaurant reviews, and store reviews.

Just be careful you don't carry a Styrofoam cup or a Big Gulp super-sized soft drink, or Mayor (Nanny) Bloomberg will get ya.

The American Museum of Natural History on the west side of Central Park at 77th to 81st Streets in Manhattan has more than natural history. It has extensive and authoritative ethnic collections. On the east side of the Park opposite it is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Nice collections of Arms and Armor, also Egyptian, ancient Middle East, Greece, and Rome.

One other place I remembered is http://warshawhardware.com/ . It's an old style hardware store that carries all types of things. They use to carry Spyderco, Cold Steel, SAK/Victorinox, and some Buck and a few old Schrade. The prices were very fair, but I'm not sure if the cut back on carrying knives.

It would be worth a call or email though, as it's only a few blocks from Paragon and other major shopping areas.

Did some phone"legwork" for you Eastlin.

Spoke with a very knowledgable knife sales clerk @ Paragon and, as I assumed, all the folders they currently stock are legal to carry in N.Y.C..

I figured that after the raids that mayor jackass bloomberg did on them and others in 2010,they would only retail street legal folders. They have your production knives such as Gerber ,SAK's,Buck,Case, etc, and also an extensive selection of customs by various makers ranging in price from 350.00 to over 10,000..

The fixed blade hunters are NOT street legal but they do sell them for their intended usage. Obviously,no one with criminal intentions would ever buy one for use against a victim.

Check out the Lower East Side for some fun shops and folks. Even though a total tourist trap these days,McSorleys Ale House is a must. Get there early so no lines.Great brew.
There's an excellent toy shop on 2nd Ave.+6th St. called Tokyo Toy if you like such things(no knives),the "Ukrainian Museum" on 7th between 2nd+3rd which has some great exhibits going on at any given time and the best pizza in NYC imho~Strombolis,on 8th St.&1st Ave..

The Guggenheim is an excellent museum and amazing piece of architecture.

Bring me a genuine kuksa and I'll meet you for a few beers:D

Say hello to my friends in Stockholm, Sly and Felicia, should you bump into them.

Have a safe and fun trip!

Here's a recent look at Paragon's knife counter recently, slimmer pickings from just a few years ago, but still about as big a selection of sporting knives as you'll find in the city proper -

New York is about the worst city in the U.S. for buying knives. If you are in to kitchen knives at all try Korin, 57 Warren St.
