Well, I don't really want to spend the money on something I'm never going to like...

Any knives that are nice in the $30-60 price range?
The only thing I could find was the Smith & Wesson series. Also, some Timberline kinves (which are a little more expensive).

Are these brands even worth it? Thanks in advance.

Uh, one more thing. I'm pretty new to this knife thing.

Hi X64

Have a look at some of the Benchmade or Spyderco knives
Both company's offer good quality knives in that price range as well as more expensive knives!

There are other company's out there that offer good knives in your price range also but those two seam to be the most popular!

Oh one more thing shop around before you buy. There are a lot of internet dealers out there if you look around you can usually find pretty good prices on most any knife, or you can try and find something you like over in the Exchange forums

There are lots of nice folders in that price range.

Spyderco make the Delica and you can get the Endura and Native Lightweight for around $60.00.

Benchmade have the new 10200 Ambush that should be close to the upper end of the price range you gave.

CRKT have many knives that fit your price requirements as do Kershaw, Cold Steel (not a personal favorite) and SOG. You should have no trouble finding a good knife that will fit within your budget constraints.

If you have an interest in making your knife. Knifekits.com offers an outstanding kit in the DDR3. I have one and would willing stack it up against any production folder for quality. It's about $40-$50.

You can get FRN Spydercos for great prices, especially if you check around the forums.

Got a LNIB S30V-bladed Native off a forumite today for $40 shipped. :D

CRKT makes a bunch of decent stuff in that price range, lots of collabs with custom makers. Benchmade Griptilians are also great knives, absolutely loved mine when I had it.

You'll have no trouble getting a decent knife in your price range, just stick to the best established companies, and you'll get your money's worth. Be sure to keep an eye out on the for-sale forums at the various knife/gadget forums.

you can get tons of quality for under $60. First, start checking out internet dealers so you have an idea of all the options out there, and what you prefer (type of lock, blade3 steel, bulk, weight, handle material, blade shape, etc.). You can begin with the "store" link at the top of this page. Then, if there are certain knives you are interested in but have questions about, post them here. also, see if you can find the knives for sale near to you, so you can handle them. but don't pay brick-and-mortar store prices unless the store was very helpful and friendly, because online prices are cheaper. But to get the bestest of all deals, once yuou know what you want, start checking out the "for sale - production knives" forum here, for GREAT deals! Meanwhile, if you like spydercos, check their site b/c they have the Herbst on sale for $50 which is the best quality pocket knife you'll ever get for that price, pretty certain.

Spyderco are the way to go for low price, high quality. The most damage done in 4yrs and a *few* spydies is my dad busted a tip on my delica twisting it in wood. Lost the edge tip. I had the tip on my military killed at work, had to look closely to see the damage took a while to get back on the 440v.

www.newgraham.com is a great source of spydies for price(the new grey calpyso jr is out now, 40.58usd), my local has a better selection though(old, rare, discontinued... they got em, and most of the new ones). Got a 97 model yesterday at local, last one they had of the dyad jr in micarta. Display model for 91cdn after taxes. Had an eye on it for 2yrs.

About 1/2 the spydie lineup can be had for under 100usd factory, so 60usd online will get em.

While I'm not usually a big fan of this brand, you might consider Cold Steel.

True, their recent choice of steel has me confused, but they are cheap, they are guaranteed, they arrive sharp and will survive until you can buy something special.

I have often said this, I no longer fly. It's not just the hassle, but if it's under 800 to 1,000 miles, I can almost beat the plane to my destination with my truck, considering the flying delays.

However, if events forced me to fly, I would get a plain edged Voyager, of the proper size, check the quality of the edge, touch it up on the Edge-Pro if required, and mail it to myself at the destination.

I'm sure it will work for that short time, and if it breaks, is stolen or if my host wants it, I am out very little money.

I'm not denigrating the brand, but sometimes a cheap knife is the right choice, and I consider this event to be one of those times.

Checkout the Kabar Dozier which was a Blade knife of the year and sells for less than $ 25 including shipping and the Cold Steel Trail Guide in Carbon V which comes in two sizes under $ 30.

in that price range. In the one-handed pocket-clip genre you've got offerings from Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, CRKT and Cold Steel. In more traditional patterns you've got Queen, Buck, Schrade, Eye Brand and Bulldog. Not to mention Victorinox, Wegner, Opinel and Frosts Mora. 50 bucks could get you a Swiss Army Tinker at Target ($20) AND a Buck 110 at Wal-mart($30). But there are quite a few internet dealers you can trust, One Stop Knife Shop, New Graham, Smokey Mountain Knife Works, Ragnar's Ragweed Forge, AG Russell. Good luck and welcome aboard.

If you could go just a little over 60, you could get a 110 at walmart for 30 and send it into Joe Houser at Buck and get a BG-42 blade installed for 35 including shipping. Now that's a great deal.

My fav's in that price range are...CRKT, Spydie and Buck.
For Spydies I would look at the Endura and Delica, Buck 112,110 etc, and CRKT...basically anything. Check em out and see what tickles your pickle.

This is an excellent recommendation. A very good knife for a great price.

Sorry about that.

Shop the dealers that advertise here. Check out Spyderco, Camillus, Case, Victorinox, and Queen. Lots of great choices in the $30 to $60 range.

I'm (hopefully) receiving a A.G. Russell Featherlite One Hand for X-Mas. I've heard good things about them. They are pretty inexpensive ($35 for AUS-8). I hope I like it!

AGR Featherlight in ATS-34 for $50 is a great little knife, TDE has the new Benchmade Ambush for $50. Al Mar Hawk in micarta can be had for around that too. The Camillus EDC is also a good bet.

I have thought about picking up a Russell one hander for a long time but didn't because of the high cost of a knife. Now that they are coming down, I'll have to get one. Let us know how you like it.

My favorites, which I am glad to recommend, are the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian 555 (oval hole, not the thumbstud), Spyderco Delica, and even -- if you want a beater that can still be made pretty sharp -- the Kershaw Vapor. You can get the Vapor at Walmart for $19.99. I bought one, liked it enough that I then bought the larger Vapor II for five dollars more. They both come pretty not-sharp, but if you can sharpen at all, they'll take a good edge, even if it doesn't last as long as that on a higher-end knife.

Just get the Mini-Griptilian and you won't have such worries.
