Took a short hike in Ft. Fredrick State Park, and along the C&O Canal today. Cold and windy, but you can tell spring is on the way. Also the first trip out with my new Camelback Alpine, and my new BRKT Montana Guide. I will do a little review on that knife coming up later. It was too short of a hike to really test it out.

There were several turtles in this beaver pond. I kept scaring the off the logs, unintentionally.

I really like this knife. It feels great, especially in my bigger hands. It is a great knife to be paired up with my RC-6, which is kept in my bag, due to all the sheeple in MD.

Great pics. You guys that hike near water have no idea how jealous I am!

Hey pw21, nice pictures, thanks for sharing. Nice knives too, although I'd be careful laying that Barkie down in the grass............

Nice barkie - put some blaze orange on that thing :D

Out of curiosity, when you used the knife, does your index finger tend to grab the exposed tang part or do you hold it on the slabs. My first visual impression is - that is odd, they didn't extend the handle slabs over the full part of the tang. But then again, it could be really comfortable that way. I know with the mini- and micro-CDNs you use that part extensively and are no worse for comfort.

When I hold the knife naturally, my hand stays on the slabs, but it is comfortable to grab the tang. When I tried this I pinched the tang, the way I hold a kitchen knife, and I feel it gives me a lot of control.

Great pics! Silentthunder, there's a knife show in Frederick next weekend? If so, I'll definitely try to make it.

I am planning on doing a hike at Avenida De Los Arboles trail head in Thousand Oaks soon. Apparently there is a waterfall. I will keep you posted.

If it is the hike that I am thinking of, I have done it several times. During the summer we used to hike to the waterfall at night and jump off of it into the pond below. Is it also called Wildwood park or something like that? Here.

Another fun place to do some swimming is at Malibu Creek State Park. There are lots of rocks to go climbing at, and there is a big rock pool with some small cliffs to do some cliff jumping, you just have to watch out for the depth of the water.

Another waterfall that is much bigger than the one in TO is escondido falls in Malibu. It is about a mile away from Kanan on PCH. Here is some info about it. There is not always a lot of water, and the hike to the upper falls requires a little bit of using you hands, but it is not too difficult. There is a lot of moss and such on that falls, it is one of my most favorite hikes in the area.
