Short Hike On The Cumberland Trail

Great pics Mist. I like that Schrade.

Thanks Jake, I really like it too. I couldn't begin to remember all of the game that was processed, fires that were started, or meals that were cooked using the old one. Including a triumphant meal of duck and dressing when I was finally able to hit my first duck. It was small, but it sure was good

One thing I enjoyed about this post, was the pictures. I need to take more 'nature' pics when I am hiking.

Thanks, I should have taken a few more...the only skill I was practicing was not getting over-heated :)

good stuff. the old schrades were awesome. now they are made in china. atleast the one i got for 15 bucks was..

Yeah, some of the new ones are made in China...some in Taiwan. So far I much prefer the ones made in Taiwan.

Fabulous pics!

Looks like a lovely area :)

Thanks Andrew, it is really nice up there and I love it any time...but I have a lot more fun in the cooler months.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

Thanks Russell, there would have been more pics...but I spent a good bit of time off in thought this last trip......

Great photos - thanks for posting.

That Schrade reminds me of my first knife, which was a Schrade with a stacked leather handle. It disappeared from our family camping gear collection when I was a teenager. It would be nice to have that keepsake.

Never a bad thing .

Actually, since my GF has been away most of the summer and took her digicam with her, I've found myself enjoying hikes a little more than I normally do. I don't spend time trying to capture (unsuccessfully) the beauty around me. Instead, I'm free to simply soak it all in and let my mind relax. Never a bad thing :)

Mist - Love that patina on the Old Timer.

HikingMano - I actually feel naked when I don't bring my camera along, shockingly perhaps even more so than when I'm knifeless. I have cursed carying a 2lb SLR many a time though...

Haha, KGD, I am normally that way too. Part of the going-outside checklist: "Is the camera battery charged?" :D It's only recently that I've actually begun to appreciate the subtly different experience when one doesn't have a camera. This doesn't mean I won't take the camera when my GF gets back with it though :D I still enjoy (very much) taking pics and striving to capture moments/sights. And I'm sure my interest will intensify once I get myself a decent DSLR.

"everything in moderation"

ETA: I should have said "enjoying a little different experience while hiking" in my previous post above, rather than "enjoying hikes a little more than I normally do". I like hiking with a camera just as much as without, just different.

There is almost always a meditation period...I just usually take pics going to and from. This time I spent a lot of time in thought while walking and missed a lot of things I'm sure. But, at least it was quiet enough to think

Thanks Ken, me too, I'm not going to mess with the patina, just give it a fresh edge.

I would feel totally naked without it. You mean it only weighs 2 pounds? Seems like more after 4 or 5 hours. But I don't do much of anything knifeless...that's why I hate paying my taxes at the court house...

Just had to get my one Schrade fixed blade out today. Im squaring off the spine and adding a patina to it.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the photos. The Woodsman was/is a great knife. I hated it when they stooped making them. Even though the new ones are Stainless and have some slight mods I'm glad to see them back in the line up. My first one and I spent a lot of quality time in the woods together. I need to work the edge on this one and take it hunting this year.
