Anyone use the short kabar combat knife with 5 1/4 blade? I was considering getting a smaller utility knife now that I got by Becker BK9. Anyone find it useful, what about the Kydex sheath? I like the looks of the old tried and true combat knife.

it's decent but for the money since you've already got a chopper capable of heavy duty I'd go for something that with more of a slicing or whittling capability..if I was going to do the kabar I'd cut the rear guard off so I could get mt humb up on the spine for more controlled use

I would reccommend skipping it and picking up the Necker that ka-bar has done with becker, may as well keep the Bro's together huh?:D

I'd suggest a mora2000 or a puku style knife to optimize slicing with your big chopper.

Skip it. While the shorter blade is nice, the handle is proportionally smaller. Quit a bit in fact. Too small for me.
If they made a shorter blade but kept the same diameter handle as the original KaBar that would be a good knife to get.

I used one of the shorter Air Force Survival Knives like the short Ka-Bar for years. If I hadn't lost it, I'd still be using it today.

If you like the style, get one. I just wouldn't carry both the combat style knife and the BK9 at the same time. I'd get something smaller and thinner as posted above to pair up with the BK9.

If you like the stacked leather and classic look, check out the Ka-Bar Little Finn, 4" Hunter, or Skinner.

Other classic designs that are tried and true are the Buck 102, 105, and 119 as well as the Fieldcraft from Marbles.

What he said. That would make an excellent combo. I believe it is the one that Mr. Becker uses (combowise)
