Short machetes?

14" Tramontina Bolo and 12" Ontraio Camper are both awesome.
The thicker Ontario gives you power while the Tram is quick.

I have a 12 inch Gavilan, simply awesome. Not sure where you can find these nowadays, this is about 10 years old. I find the 12-14 size to be most useful for my purposes.

I find anymore that the shorter machetes like the 12" and 14" ones are the ones I use the most. Maybe it has to do with my being more urban in uses than when I was in the country. Whatever it is I usually grab one of the shorter ones first for most all my uses on my property.

Personally I find myself usually grabbing a 20"-24" machete, but that's because the extra forward mass really helps power through a lot of the hard or frozen wood you find up here. :)

Typically 18"-22" is what is commonly found, and this leads me to believe that it's the sweet spot for general usage. However, a shorter machete strikes a good balance between machete duties and large knife duties.

My 12" Ontario modded ala Pict of this forum,is my go to chopper and is very easy to carry cross shoulder on a braided 550 cord lanyard.--KV
