Short overnighter with gear review

That kickin Husky? I know Ive seen that pot before, what is it and will a nalgene fit inside it?

It's a "coffee" pot from Target. A nalgene fits nicely inside. I drilled 2 holes in the lip of the can and got some chain and S hooks from the hardware store so I can hang it over the fire.

Cool pics, reminds me of some of the areas in central Georgia. Great find on the fatwood, and some good looking gear there...but next time you should take or procure something to go in that boiled water you cooked for supper :)

Supper consisted of Mountain House Chicken and Rice. It wasn't bad. Could have used some spice, but it wasn't as bland as plain water :)

Stanwell?

Appreciate the info on the bags too. I have been using them but have not had a chance to put them to a real test. They don't stink like the G.I. WP bags and the closures are convenient.

Peterson, but it looks extremely close to a Stanwell Colonial.

Nobody has the guess yet, but revolverman357 was close. It's in one of the pictures and Doc-Canada might recognize it.

Ha you didn't leave your sling out there did you? The macrame looking one on the coffee table?

Nice pics btw, looks a lot like south Mississippi. We have huge hunks of fatwood littered everywhere.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner! I left the sling on the log and remembered when I tried to get a bird with a rabbit stick.

Send your shipping info to my name @ gmail dot com and I'll forward the fatwood and glowstick.

That was fun!
Go back out there and forget something else
I need some real fatwood too :D

Petersons and Nordings in my collection, but have been considering a Stanwell. If Peterson has one that looks like that, I may just have to stick with Peterson. Nice piece of briar.

Couldn't resist playing but I can barely take a walk through the woods without tripping over lighter knot/fatwood. So perhaps send it to someone who has no access to it?

Good deal. First "I don't have access and would like some" gets a bag o fatwood.

In Chicago we go fatwood hunting at Home Depot.
I just bought a bag of it a few months ago.
Very nice of both of you.

"I don't have access and would like some".

It isn't like I haven't been looking, but I think this part of New Jersey isn't condusive to it or something.

Do they sell them over by the coffee makers and whatnot? Im trying to find something just like this and cant find it on Target's web site. Good looking kit, btw..

That looks like a fun time. I think I'd be going back another day to harvest all of that fatwood. :)

On a side note, thermarest + visqueen ground cloth = slip and slide if you tend to roll. I have a habit of rolling from one side to the other and frequently would find the thermarest didn't stay put. This was my first time using one. Borrowed it from my brother. Much more comfortably than my Z-pad, but I'd get a full length one myself.

You can use Seam-Grip on the bottom of a Thermarest to make it less slippery.

It's in their container area of housewares. They sell 3 different sizes for coffee, sugar and something else. The coffee one fits a nalgene or comparable bottle just right. I don't see it online, but last time I was in my local store, they had several.

Brizbane, send my your shipping info to darteres @ gmail . com and I'll send the fatwood your way.

BlackHills - Thanks for the tip! I'm probably going to go back with an empty day pack and fill up on fatwood. I have a stump in my yard, but this stuff is much more resinous.

I just gave my buddy a Peterson just like that, but with the silver band. its a model B10. I love that pipe bag. check out Cupojoes.com, they have a lot of Peterson pipes on sale.

They have been on clearance for quite awhile. You'll have to check your local Target... might have something left. I had a friend clean out the shelves for me at her Target. :D
