I'm not sure what to call this. A very short sword? I'll let the maker's description tell about it.

This is a custom made double edged machete - based on the blade shape of a Roman Gladius. Only two ever made. The handle is hand crafted from hand waxed and oiled walnut. The top (pommel) of the handle has a fish head shape. The blade is made from 5mm thick 01 carbon steel - hand forged, Heat Treated to 57-59 RC. It might look mighty pretty but it is sharp and useful. What's more it is all but one other unique. Nobody else will have one exactly like it. The overall length is 17 inches. The blade is 12.5 inches long. It is nicely balanced and sits nice in the hand.

SOLD

A short sword would have a blade length at least the overall length of your knife. A gladius would go probably 18", perhaps a bit longer. I don't know what to call it eiither ... maybe a double edged machete or bolo?
