Here are some photos from a little 3-day jaunt on the Cushetunk Trail in northern NJ. Though lacking the impressive geological formations and interesting tidepool life of so many of the photo threads that I've enjoyed here, I figured that I'd share all the same.
Oh, and (ducks for cover) I forgot to take any stylish photos of my knives stuck into deadwood or casually resting on a beautiful mossy background. Please forgive me as I have no idea what I was thinking and promise not to make the same mistake again.
Enough rambling:

Thanks for looking!

Nice. So there are places in NJ that aren't industrial wasteland.
Good pics. That tree that assimilated the signs is cool.

Looks like a great place.

Where in NJ? I've been looking for a hike that is fairly close to me.

Thanks.

Myright, it is located in the Round Valley Recreation Area, in Lebanon, NJ (close to rts. 78 and 22).

I had my Victorinox Hunter SAK and Kabar Heavy Bowie.

... or endless suburban housing or shopping malls? :)

Try it, you'll like it. I just walked 20 minutes down the road to a miniature version of what he showed, in the middle of a quiet NJ town.

Nice pics. Looks like some great spots for Tony to bury some bodies out there:D
Or should we be suspecting our Raskalnikov, is everything truly permitted, young Rodka?
(no, I haven't lost my mind, read some Dostoevsky.)

Great pics! I like the last one where you can see the sediments through the water and sky at the same time. Not a jet ski in sight!

I knew there were still some good places in this state!
:D

actually the appalachian trail is really awesome, and there are alot of nice spots in far south NJ and far north.
:D

NJ is a heavily populated state with a lot of highway miles per capita. We also have one of the largest horse populations per capita in the country. We are not as urbanized as most people believe. The population is spread among townships that tend to push up against each other in the west central part of the state, but there are extensive open areas, as well.

The bad old days of burning garbage dumps are hard to forget, in the industrial center of the state. But many of our industries are cleaner now and environmental action has restored and protected many beautiful and valuable areas.

It's a balance, as always. People want good jobs, but they don't want the costs of industry. They want green space, but not the restrictions on putting up more housing, more malls, more big box stores. They want wildlife, but not bears in their backyards.

Nice pics! I have to get up there in northern NJ again. The only thing I hiked up there is a small portion of the AT at Rt 80 to sunfish pond about 5 years ago with the wife.

Thanks for sharing!

Is that critter a centipede or millipede? Great pictures, Raskolnikov!

That's a friendly old millipede. Eats up old organic matter amongst the leaves and loam.

They are indeed some nice pictures, it seems you had the place to yourself which is always good.
My knowledge of American geography is weak but as others have said this isn't what you imagine when you think New Jersey.
