Hey everybody
been a while since i posted.. been crazy busy. Working full time going to school, and getting married! this little wakizashi was made as a trade for a diamond, and help assembling my fiancee's ring. I am not sure how many layers the blade is.. and the pedigree of the steel is sketchy...I got sori when i water-quenched, but i didn't get a hamon. *scratches head* The saya is mahogany, the tsuba and habaki were cast in bronze from waxes i made. The menuki are sterling silver, and the ito is silk. My brother with the nice camera got some pictures... i will get some less-abstract photos soon.

i would appreciate your comments and criticisms.

 Chris, superb. I'm recent member to BF, so have not seen your previous post. But how long have you been knife making? and is the wakizashi a first attempt?

hey
i have been posting here for 3 years now... however for most of those years i have been asking the stupid questions. I have made one other sword and several other knives. I have been messing around with blades for 5 or 6 years now, but only started making anything other than crap about 2 years ago. the guys here are the forum have been an ENORMOUS help, and part of the reason i am floundering a little bit.. is i haven't been asking for their advice on things.

thanks for all the comments guys.. both a help and a motivation. critique wise.. that would you change? other than the patina on the copper saya collar. *oops*

thanks!
~Chris

Chris your talant seems endless and I can only imagine what your work will evolve to:thumbup:

:eek:Damm Chris!!! That looks great. Can we get a full length shot showing the Shirasiya as well? Thanks, Stabber:thumbup:

When you say "short wakizashi", exactly how long is it?

Do you have a photo showing the whole sword?

hey,
the sword is 19.5" oal and 20.5" with the sheath. it isn't a large wakizashi. i only have a couple pictures of the whole sword on my webcam... which are rough. i am going to get a couple much better shots later today in natural light.

thanks for the comments! i would appreciate some critiques when you see the whole sword

Does that mean the blade is in the 14" range?

I really like what I see and am looking forward to seeing better images of the whole sword.

Chris.....dude you are a beast at this knifemaking thing. I so look forward to seeing your work.

I like it the way it is! I think that if you had obtained a hamon, it might have confused the existing pattern in the steel. I think a hamon looks better on a blade with a more plain/subdued finish.

Thanks for the look!

Keith,
the tsuka is about 5 inches long, so yes, the blade is about 14" long. is that too short to be a wakizashi? i read somewhere the breakdown of sizes.. but i didnt write it down.

i am hoping to finish another sword (so i can wear it) by the time i get married in July, but i am going to be working full time AND taking 12 credits in an 8 week summer class. so i dont know if i am going to have the time to make that happen. So, if not.. then this is the sword i will wear at my wedding! very exciting time. Thanks so much for the encouragement, and as promised, more pictures! enjoy!

Just had a thought when I read this post...
If this would help you out, it would be a Great Honor to send it your way for Yours & Gracie's Wedding, Sweetie!
Say the word & it's on the way, My Friend!
