Short Wakizashi

Keith,
the tsuka is about 5 inches long, so yes, the blade is about 14" long. is that too short to be a wakizashi? i read somewhere the breakdown of sizes.. but i didnt write it down.

~Chris

A wakizashi has a blade between 12 and 24 inches, so 14" is definitely within that range.

Wakizashi--- 16 to 20 inches.

Where did you get that information?

From what I have read, a tanto has a blade up to one shaku (30.3 centimeters) in length, A wakizashi/kodachi is from one to two shaku, and a katana/tachi is two shaku or more.

Keith---I got that info from Phill H. But in Yumoto's book, The Samurai Sword, he has the lengths you shared for a wakizashi.. I'll go with Yumoto. Thanks for the post.

QUOTE FROM CHRIS:
"i am hoping to finish another sword (so i can wear it) by the time i get married in July, but i am going to be working full time AND taking 12 credits in an 8 week summer class. so i dont know if i am going to have the time to make that happen."

Just had a thought when I read this post...
If this would help you out, it would be a Great Honor to send it your way for Yours & Gracie's Wedding, Sweetie!
Say the word & it's on the way, My Friend!

Sheila, thanks for the offer! i hadnt really thought about that. Now that i think about it more.. i might take you up on your offer. and if i finish the other sword in time, i will still have to to fix your sheath. *grins* so it is a win win situation. that would be awesome! your wedding colors are while blade and dark green, so it would fit perfectly!
thank you, you are really sweet.
~Chris
