Shot in the Dark

LOL. Figures it was Bill.

And I had such a crush on That Girl. It was that gravely/squeeky voice. Best heard thru a pillow. ROTFL!!!!

Jason, is this what you were thinking of, a Bill Siegle blade chopping through frozen elk bone?

http://www.survival.com/siegle_blades.htm

Ya beat me to it resinguy! I was thinking Bill after the first post! :D Back when I saw Ron Hood chopping that bone I was seriously impressed. I've worked with several of Bill's knives, including two Hoodlums, and their all good stuff. One of the Hoodlums tried to eat its way out of the box.

Just goes to show two principles I've learned over the years.

1.) It never hurts to ask
2.) "Busse people" / HOGS ROCK !!!

Seriously, if anyone can hook me up with an elk leg.....

:D

Just wondering if anyone has a picture of a Hoodlum and a Jungle Knife side-by-side. Bill's site appears to be down at present.

They have similar blade lengths, but the Hoodlum looks even more substantial than the Jungle Knife. Would love to see some specs.

Here is a pic of a Hoodlum. The one I had was 17" overall 6" handle with an 11" blade. It was one hell of a knife, but I live 20 mins from the pentagon. Lots o' sheeple and lots o' stupid cops

Looks distinctive from the knife pictured on the survival.com page.

That one had a pronounced blade guard. Still, very similar shape and size, I suppose.

Jungle knife for contrast...

I think 007's knife is a Hoodlum II, not a Hoodlum.

I had asked Bill how his Jungle knife differs from the Hoodlum 2. His reply:

"The Jungle Knife pattern is a little lighter up front at the tip than the HoodlumII. Gives it a little more velocity for cutting things like vegetation. It still has plenty of mass for chopping though. I guess you could say the HoodlumII is closer to a pure chopper whereas the Jungle Knife is a little more versitile."

So I will guess that the Hoodlum pattern has less of the distal taper. The original Hoodlum may be even stouter than the Hoodlum II. Maybe someone can email Bill about this thread, and he can come explain it to his fans.

What "VERY" popular TV show was a spinoff form the Danny Thomas show? We know you are old if you saw the original run.
Didn`t see the original, but I`m trivia buff enough to know the very first spinoff in TV history. Danny Thomas`s character had a run-in with the law in a small town and people liked the episode so much it spawned......................(The sound of whistling slowly rises in the background) THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW!

Damn, I just got to read the rest of the thread and see that someone beat me to it. Must be that whole International Date Line thing.

Yep those are my knives :) The one with the brass guard is a Hoodlum and the other is a HoodlumII. Ron Hood used the Hoodlum to chop up a frozen elk leg bone. The design is a mighty nice chopper. She'll do other stuff too of course. The difference between a Jungle Knife and a Hoodlum(II) is the foward weight which I "adjust" using the grinder leaving a little more steel up front on the Hoodlums :)

Hey, Guyon, you got your Jungle Knife!

It will develop a patina from chopping vegetation and tree sap. I just had to clean mine up with a Scotch Brite wheel.

Patina doesn't really bother me. I have two of David Wesner's choppers--one in A2 and one in 5160. Same thing with those, but they clean up really easily. Flitz and a buffing wheel is a little less abrasive.
