SHOT SHOW 2016 starts Tues. 19th, today

Thank you for the kind words. Entirely my pleasure. Believe it or not I actually ordered a Buck towel, coffee cup and the new Selector already. Why wait to see it!

I guess I am getting to be a 'Ole Foeggy' , I have/had a hard time watching presentations on high tech stuff. I guess shouldn't, cause I remember back in the 90's we had Buck dartboards, odd clothing and all sorts of stuff. Time marches on. It may be starting to march by me......300

I think it was the fancy frog gig that got me.

I looked at that and thought it looks like a frog gig as well. But there's not many bull frogs in Idaho. Man, those were good eating with my Gandmother's biscuits. Didn't take long to skin them either. DM

What length is the blade on the new 2.0 Selector? They changed it to a mid-lock. What's the handle material? I like the towel and coffee cup. DM

3.5 inches on the drop point blades. Adding the 5 inch handle sums to a total 8.5 inch knife when open. Not too big and not too mall. Just the right size for many.

For me mid-locks make one-hand closings easier, less likely to drop the knife, than with an end-lock. Opening either, Selector 1.0 or 2.0, is easy just grip the closed blade real good and smartly drop the knife. The handle pivots and locks open with velocity and a familiar satisfying click.

The handle overlay is thermoplastic. I am unfamiliar with this material. Looks to my sore eyes like Micarta. I hope it has grip when wet like Micarta. And I'll need some orange scales cause I lose stuff outdoors.

I am sure that I really need a Buck towel. Positive. Also, I really want a Buck bandana if anyone is paying attention. I carry a generic one in my back pocket to use as a bandage should I be shot, and survive, visiting a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon with camera and binoculars!!! What a world it is where Sandhills Cranes are held hostage.

I could do with a Buck handkerchief to wipe my nose at shows and similar places. Just to show my Buck support for an American company. Thanks, DM

Has anyone seen anything about the Buck 715 Ascend? Supposedly it is a folding knife that was recently unveiled at SS. I heard it is supposed to be available sometime around the summer for under $30, but only as a Walmart exclusive. 420hc and USA made. I'd like to get some specs and a picture if possible.

If it weren't for stupid WM firewalls I'd have posted a picture by now. Bob and I were trying to do a more "official" release but time ran out and the Outdoor Wire release was the best that we could do. I'll try to get a picture up.

Yup, that 715 looks pretty cool. Unless it ends up being really small I'll pick one up. Looks like the blade might be 3.5"-ish though??

It's a 3.5" blade. We tried to pay homage to the Kalinga but used anodized aluminum on the handle to modernize it. It's extremely light.

Excellent information Wramo for all of us production knife fans. May you live a thousand years.

Thank you kindly emw479. I was hoping that you would find this thread and sure enough you did like the champion that you are. WTG.

Buck Ascend 715 (light weight salute to the Kalinga), 420HC, anodized aluminum handle, mid-lock back lock, WM exclusive, USA made, new 2016:

Fantastic choice of anodization color. :)

Glad that you like the blue, Oregon. We bickered about color for a while. Black and forest green were options, even red I think. Maybe they'll see the light of day as sprint runs in the future. Supposedly Bob presented one to the governor of Idaho at the show, and if memory serves me correctly the knife that Bob had was black. It'll probably be worth millions some day.

IMHO you made that knife just for me. You have really good taste. I couldn't be more tickled. Thank you kindly. Sprint runs @ Spyderco have everyone clamoring to get into the purchase line. It worked for them. Bob George has the gift doesn't he and I'll rest easier knowing that Gov. Otter now has a capable cutting tool in his possession. And, yes you are correct, he probably won't need his government pension now that he has the rapidly appreciating first edition lucky unique black 715 Ascend! :)

Green gets lost outdoors in this neck of the woods where everything is green.
Red is reserved for practice knives without points or sharp edges by some manufacturers.
Black doesn't draw heat.
Blue is, well, my favorite color and brings to mind the sea and summer sky @ Makapuu.
White gives away your position.
Yellow attracts chicks.
Pink girls like.
Brown blends in.
