Shot Show thoughts?

I gotta say: I think Hogue won the show. I personally really like their polymer options and the Deka in Magnacut is on my short list. My Ritter Hogue is easily in my top 5 knives and the edge geometry is so outstanding. Outside of Hogue, I am also interested in the Native in Magnacut from Spyderco.

I shared my thoughts in the Shot Show video thread, but I'll summarize here as well.

I think the Protech Terzuola ATCF was the best knife in the show.

The only MUST HAVE for me will be the Magnacut Manix 2 LW, which now comes with screwed construction. I only hope it is not a sprint, but since it will be a Salt series I'm thinking it will not be.

I do happen to be a fan of Karambits, and I really dig the Emerson LionSteel collab, but since I no longer carry a Karambit daily I doubt I'll get one (never say never). My hopes are that since it's a flipper, it will have a strong enough detent to keep it from being gravity opened, as that is the reason I stopped carrying my Emerson Karambit regularly (fear of it opening in pocket in carried reverse grip).

I'm sure I'll grab a Case Swell Center Jack (Vault Release) before the year is out.

One sleeper that really caught my eye, that seemed to fly under the radar and I'm not hearing alot of people mention is the Benchmade Auto Immunity. I like mini autos, and the smaller "partial" version in OD green is calling to me when I see it. That usually means it's inevitable, but the black Cerakote and Benchmade pricing may be enough to put me off.

Bit of an oddball callout, but the Boker Barlow with Sherman Damast steel caught my eye. Literally caused me to order the M4 Sherman this evening. As a collector, I like well paired modern and traditional folders. The M4 Sherman and Barlow Sherman will make a sweet set.

I think the Chinese companies are really killing it. Very excited for all of B'yond EDC's upcoming rises this year, probably the best of the show for me. Civivi/We and Artisan/CJRB had some compelling items as well. Pretty interested in the new Drifter from Cold Steel with the Atlas lock, I know it's basically SnecX's superlock, but this should be much more affordable than the We Vision.

I was watching a short Shot Show Protech video and the kid said they are bringing out the Mordax with Magnacut.

I know the Mordax with 20CV is a MASSDROP exclusive but I was wondering will the Magnacut version be sold thru regular dealers, or is MASSDROP the only way to get one?

In the bladehq video, Protech said they will be available through regular dealers.

The S90V Yojumbo looks nice; I'm trying to think pretty hard what else and coming up blank...

Anyone hear anything about the White River PDK? I set aside 500 last year for it and have heard squat about it...I'm on their newsletter

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression massdrop is no longer doing knives and the Mordax will continue through Protech on its own.

Massdrop isn't doing knives any more, and it seems another company bought the rights to distribute most of their exclusives, but thankfully ProTech kept the Mordax to distribute through their own dealer network.

Do you think since Magnacut is a tougher steel that Protech will thin the edge out on them?

I would hope so. The Malibu was much thinner behind the edge, so it seems they listened to people who wanted a thinner edge.

Here's what I saw from SHOT vids and other social media that I liked:

Spyderco Lil' Native Lightweight. Thinner blade stock, should be a good alternative to the Dragonfly. Maybe will be offered in K390 at some point.
Artisan Valor. Ferrum Forge designed ti frame lock.
Bestech BG40 Syntax. Todd Knife & Tool designed reverse tanto liner lock in 14c28n. Another option is BG41 with clip point and 154cm.
Cold Steel Mayhem. XL prototype folder. I don't buy much CS these days but I might open my wallet for an over-the-top folder with their new Atlas lock.

What I didn't like:

Prices are getting up there as knife inflation takes hold.
WE Knives has fewer interesting collabs and "unique" designs. They are churning out simpler designs. Flat ti scales, standoffs, no internal milling, and the same stamped clip resting on top. I guess you could call it "shrink-flation." Offering less for the same amount of money. If I'm going to drop $200+ on a folder I want it to be special, not just well-made and generic.
