Should a customer cancel an order?

i keep in constant contact with anyone wanting a knife made. if they are local i make sure they see the knife as it progresses. that way i am sure they are happy with the knife and still want it. if its an online deal i do the same. i require a verbal contact and will not and never have done email only deals. i dont have a problem holding onto a knife
if funds were not available at delivery time either. payments can even be sent until the knife is paid for since it doesnt hurt to have quite a few samples to show people.

I really appreciate it when a maker informs me that he has started work on my knife. This experience is rare for me. I would add, however, that delivery time on knives I order has been less than 1 year. I would assume that this experience may be more common when delivery time extends more than one year.

But back to the initial question. I definitely believe a customer has an obligation to inform the maker as soon as possible if his decision changes. Same with a maker. As others have posted, just common courtesy.
