Should a knife nut shave with a stright razor?

I recently began shaving with a straight razor and am loving it. It took me nearly an hour to shave when I first started, and it wasn't a very close shave. With lots of practice though I'm down to about 10 minutes and a LOT closer shave. You learn tricks like pulling the skin taut, you develop a pattern, etc. Its really easier than you might think. Its SURELY something and knife nut should enjoy. It is a lost art it seems, caring for and using a straight razor, but there is still some good info out there. Everything you could imagine on care and use there, it taught me a lot. If you care about the environment, that aspect is there too. No more blades filling the landfills and so forth. Good luck! jeff

I really don't tink you have to be a full blood knif knut to use a straight razor to shave with. I shaved with a straight razor only, for 10 straight years (from my 30th to 40th birthday). There was no need at the time to shave every day and I have never had a thick facial hair. When I took the teaching job, well you know what happened. Bic time. The one thing that I really liked was using the brush soap and preparing to shave. The hot towel, lathering up, and the glide of a good razor cutting the softened hair. The one thing I did learn was #1, always use the same razor. Different brands, sizes, and weights will make a difference. and #2, NEVER DRINK BEFORE YOU SHAVE. I tried twice, got cut twice.
If you have any problem with ingrown facial hair, the straight razor is the way to go or use a dulled bic. The reason hair grows into the skin is because it is curling when it comes out and the end has been cut at an angle and is sharp. The straight razor will cause the hair to break just before it completely cuts it and leaves it dull. That is why you need the hot towel to get the hair soft so it feels good instead of pulling. I hope this has helped those that might want to try it.
A story: Once when I was shaving, my daughter ran into the room laughing about a ball player using a woman's shaver to shave his face with. She had never seen me useanything but the straight razor. I thought it was funny.

Hi JeeGeet, Not unless you have great
insurance & a high tolerance for pain. Unfortunately, it's only a matter of time before you nick yourself. It sounds like a fun idea, but I think safety razors work great!

I used one for a few months once. The sides of the face are easy, and faster than a safety razor the neck isnt bad once you get over the idea of holding a razor to your own throat(Idont know he seemed happy)The chin, The chin is tough I think I cut myself every time I shaved. It's also a great way to horrify your girl-friend.
