should i be concerned if i ordered a wood handle?

Stabilization is for woods that need the pores filled so the can be used for the most part.
California Buckeye wood is a fine example of a wood that you really couldn't use without stabilzation to fill the voids.

Ironwood was sought after in the new world because it would hold up to saltwater. the Spanish used it for ship's block and tackle on their sailing craft. Ebony was used for similar needs. Cocobolo as well. I have heard of a few people stabilizing Ebony, but I would be interested in how much of the acrylic was really added to the wood?

Before Micarta and other synthetics these where the most durable materials to make knife handles with.

The Phosphates in dishwashing soap will eventually destroy any wood, and the edges on the steel within a few washings. too!
