Should I be concerned?

About a month ago I sold a knife to a new member here. This gentleman has been making several purchases over the last month or so on what (to me) appear to be mid to upper priced knives. I have the del confirmation to show that the knife was delivered but I can't get any response to my emails asking if he was happy with the knife (even when I email him while I see he's online on the forum) and I didn't send it needing a signature. It also appears that he doesn't leave feedback for the sellers ... ever.

I have hear of ppl buying things using Paypal then, months later, filing a claim with Paypal claiming they never got the item (obviously hoping the seller had thrown away the del conf receipt). I'm not saying or implying that is what is happening but the stories have stuck in my mind.

At what point, time wise, would you think a buyer no longer has the right to ask for a refund of his money for any reason? Do you think the lack of acknowledging his receiving a knife (either through email or even by not leaving feedback) could be setting up for a dispute through Paypal later?

Thanks

I always send an email upon reciept of a knife purchased through the blade forums sale forums, whether it is from an individual or a maker. For one thing, this is just common courtesy. I will let the seller know that I recieved the knife and that it meets my expectations - this fulfills the agreement entered into. Without that, I don't know if the deal would be considered consumated. I also ask that the seller let me know when they have recieved the MO - I always worry that it will get lost and don't want the seller to be inconvienanced. I have seen enough horror stories in TGBU to make me a bit gunshy if I was a seller concerning paypal and credit cards - I do everything with a USPS MO - I would think that this would alleviate any worries on the sellers part concerning backcharges on paypal/CCs. I always wonder if this MO that I am sending out is going to be the one that I get scammed on as a buyer. I have purchased a bunch of knives here and have not had one glitch - says a lot about the folks on Bladeforums. The bad apples you see in TGBU are a very small percentage of the community here. As to the situation that you are dealing with, I would start emailing every day asking if he has recieved the knife - if nothing else, catch him on bladeforums in a thread and get a confirmation that he recieved it. Chances are, there is not a problem.

if you didnt get your knife for 2 weeks then I would call paypal.

I was the seller and I can't get him to acknowledge that he received the knife.

I'm not ready to take this to feedback, he hasn't actually done anything wrong. Another thing I just noticed is that during the sale of the knife there were 17 or 18 emails sent between him and I in a 5 day period. Sent the day I sent the delivery confirmation number I've not heard anything from him even after several emails to him.

As long as you received payment and you can prove that you sent the item then I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you're in the clear.

when I sale some thing I always put delivery confirmation on it. that way my butt is covered.

I started to use Signature Confirmation instead of delivery conf especially if it's a high dollar knife. It doesn't cost much more and you have proof of an actual signature. In the past I hated to receive packages this way cause I was rarely home and had to hit the PO to pick them up but better safe than sorry... Sig conf includes the same tracking type info that delivery conf gives you as well.

To the original question, some guys are just rude. I ALWAYS let the seller know when I receive a knife, whether I'm happy or not. Just seems like common courtesy which is getting more rare these days :grumpy:.

If you have confirmation that the knife is delivered, then the business has been concluded and it's time to move along. I've bought and sold items here and not received feedback, while annoying it's no big deal. According to paypal, you need to use signature copnfirmation when you sell an item over $240 I believe. If you don't and a claim is filed, you automatically lose because you didn't follow their guidelines.

Why would you suspect this person is going to file a claim against you? It's sounding a bit like paranoia to me on your part. He might be creeped out by an onslaught of emails and thinks you might be stalking him. Step back and move on. BTW, you are in Feedback now. ;)

Thank you for the info re: Paypal policy, I was unaware of that. As to not receiving feedback, that isn't the concern for me, my concern is the lack of confirmation
to me that he received the knife. As to why I suspect he might file a claim ... I don't really suspect it, I was simply soliciting opinions as to how the forum members would view the situation should, a month or two down the line he pops up wanting a refund. I also wondered if it is thought odd that, after a flurry of communication during the purchase process, he simply refuses to answer my attempts to contact him (as to my 'onslaught of emails', since I sent him the del confirmation number I have attempted to contact him 4 times in the past 3 weeks .. 3 emails and a post on his profile, two of those times after seeing him online and in the forum. He doesn't have his PMs enabled so I can't PM him directly).

Thank you for moving the thread to the proper place. I didn't post here originally since I was only seeking opinions from members, not actually complaining or praising another member or business.

Would I be out of line contacting other members who have sold to him to see if they have had the same experience?
