Should I be disappointed

"When you get to the belly I slightly tilt the blade to the opposite side to follow the grind of the blade from the belly to the tip."
Sorry for a dumb question, but are you tilting the top of the blade away ( pushing the egde into the stone) or are you tilting the bottom (cutting edge) towards the other stone?

He's talking about the spine. Slightly though, as he said.

Yep, you got lucky getting the old style box IMO.
Nice knife too, congrats ! I love the large and small Micarta.

Thanks - that makes sense. I do like the micarta now that I have small and large micarta 21s I'm eyeing the micarta Inkosi too !

It will be most helpful to mark your edge with a sharpie and then do a few swipes on the SM, then check to see where the stones are removing material. I've yet to sharpen a CRK that came close to hitting the apex on the 20 degree setting due to the convexed edge.

I'll try the sharpie. Haven't had to sharpen any of my recent crks, but I think My first one (10 + years ago) was BG 42 and I couldn't get it back to hair shaving sharp - ended up selling it. I do pretty well with Spydercos on the SM.

When you get the belly of the blade, slightly tilt the spine of the blade to the opposite side as this will allow you to follow the curve of the blade and keep the edge on the stones. So you would alternate the tilts to the opposite with every stroke as your stroking each side of the edge. This is where the sharpie trick works perfectly. Especially for beginners or someone new to the Sharpmaker. It works like a charm. If you have any questions, always feel free to ask. That's what we are here for...!!!!

I've tried the sharpie on my edge pro - but still didn't fair well sharpening.
But I'm going to try it on a Spyderco on the sharpmaker for practice this weekend.
Thanks for all the replies - I feel a lot better about the 2012 birth date.
Been watching the "how to clean your sebenza" videos on you tube and plan to put some fresh lube into it as well.
