Should I begin collecting Ethnographic pictures?

andy, i'll agree with that. i just don't like money or expensive things on principle. should history be sold to the highest bidder? i am a bit of a history enthusiast and i think the genuinely important things should be within everyone's reach. no premiums. i also thought these pictures were just prints from a book, not the originals. i bet i sound like a socialist.

History is of value only to those who value history..

Knowedge of history is priceless. There are many who see it as just a commodity, rather than what it can teach us.

THEY are the ones who try to set a price.

I imagine some of us might pay more than other non khuk folk for pics showing actual use of the khuk in war or in the village. We would stare with magnifying lenses trying to dig out every detail of the image. Rather than keeping it to ourselves as some may do, we would get that pic up on HI forum as quick as possible and say..."look at this!"

Put the things up for auction, sure... but the bidding should be restricted to accredited researchers. Ensures the things will go where they do the most good.

Bill,

You have no idea how much I appreciate this thread. Just got back from an appraisal of all my Asian artwork. I'm gonna go lay down now.
