Should I buy a KMG?

Just scanned the site, What would be a good set-up for a beginner, I would like the 3HP Variable motor though, unless you guys feel different about it. I could read and study all day, (which I will when I have the time) and not be sure I am buying what I should be off the site. Any guidance appreciated.

Buy variable speed, you won't regret it. I have the 2 HP variable speed which runs a 3 phase motor off a vfd. Just needs a single phase 220 volt outlet.

Get on hwy 138 and drive to I-20 West. Spend a little time enjoying the sights. When you arrive in Oxford, Alabama, You can play with my KMG all day long. You will be sold.

The KMG- 10 package is what I have w/VFD, a 2" contact wheel to put in place of an idler on the platen, comes in handy. I have the 2 HP motor and it is plenty of power for me but I don't flat grind , and I think that's when you need the extra power.

I'd like a 3" or 4" wheel but still haven't mastered what I have.

As someone who has not finished a knife in about 18 months... Get the KMG, you'll love it. I may not have finished a knife in 18 months, but I use the KMG every time I am in the shop for the car restoration I'm working on. Having a good grinder makes such a world of a difference. I would save enough extra money to get a small wheel attachment and say a 3/4" wheel as well though, it makes shaping handles and whatnot a cinch.
