Should I buy a sebenza?

Many kids would buy a video console for near the cost of a seb. Think of yourself as a GENIUS in comparison.

If buy yourself a $30 Buck, it will last your lifetime. Put your $500 in the stock market, which averages 12% per year, and you will have $200,000 at age 75. If you study up and make 15%, you will have close to $900,000. Think of how many knives you can buy then.

The $500 knife will do nothing that a $4.00 closeout Buck Mantis I picked up, as far as working. Besides, you already have some awesome, I mean awesome knives. A Sebenza is the best, but if you just put that $500 in a market fund, you'll have a nice sum at retirement.

I like knives too. I just wish someone would have explained the time value of money to me earlier.

I think you should buy one. The Sebenza is the only folder I'd recomend for serious use. You should never feel bad about spending money on high quality equipment and gear in the long run it saves you a lot more than the original cost.

First of all, the Sebenza is $330 or $380, not $500. Of course it will do plenty that a $4 knife won't. For crying out loud, get a grip.

What's the per annum value of the satisfaction the Sebenza brings? How would you amortize that out? What if he doesn't live to 75? Assuming he does, what's he going to do with the knife then?

...and why is it that the value of my mutuals keeps going down and the value of my knives keeps going up?

The Sebenza should bring roughly $365.00 worth of satisfaction a year, or about a dollar a day.

^Okay, so playing by the rules here... zero starting principal, $365/year addition, 60 years of growth and 12% annual interest.

I come up with $3,054,406.89.

You must also factor in the time/money wasted by continuing to buy cheaper lesser knives.

I realize this. I was trying to be funny. $3M vs 60 sebenzas. Oh well, only a nerd laughs at numbers. At any rate, knife habits are very expensive, and this young man is going to suffer the same fate as the rest of us.... :D, with more stylin, nonetheless.

You should take it over with your parents and do what they tell you to do.

People who advise a 15 year old to go against the wishes of his parents are not good choices for advice.

Screw the stock market. Get a Sebenza and a Roth IRA. You can't go wrong with ANY SEBENZA!

Obviously, the Sebenza would be the way to go...If not for the introduction of the upstart Umnumzaan to the market. So no, do not buy a Sebbie but a 'Zaan instead (said to be worth about $1.25 of satisfaction per day) :) .
