Should I buy the Strider SMF, SnG or Large Sebenza?

If you choose a Strider, you willhave many more questions to answere. Lego, CC or GG. CPM154 or S30V,

Lrg Seb or Umnum:thumbup: I know most don't but I've used some of my CRK's pretty hard with zero problems.

According to Dwayne Dwyer you shouldn't see a difference in edge holding between their CPM154 and S30v, but in my experience the CPM154 is a little easier to sharpen.

yeh this time Im going with strider unless something comes up within the week but I was wondering what opinions everyone has on the steels they use I have used S35VN on my small sebenza, S30V on my spydercos but I have never used CPM 154, I know they use those and I was looking at the knives available online and I wanted to ask what everyone thought would be good for my first Strider.

Strider says that due their heat treat there is no real world use difference between the 3 steels they use in their production line. I've used all 3 steels and haven't been able to tell a difference. One may be easier to sharpen than another, but I wouldn't know because every knife seems fairly easy to sharpen on my Wicked Edge.

I'm not sure what issues the other poster was speaking of, but all Striders now use the same tang grind as the SJ.

My opinion get a sebenza. Perfect knife and just as tough if not tougher then strider. That being said i use my sng more but they are both on me daily.

No matter which one you get i'm sure you'd have no trouble trading it in the Exchange for a different model if you find that you don't like it.

I was in your position once, and believe me when you go from a small sebenza to a large its a big change. It feel like you holding a massive knife in your hand. I love my sng in my opnion it has way better ergos than that of the large sebenza but I did just recently send it in to strider for warranty work since my knife I got lock rock very quickly (like a month). I have not got a email or anything nor have I heard a word from strider. Its been almost a month and nothing. I guess I ll just be patient. I know that with Chris Reeve you get excellant customer service, with strider not so much. Its really up to you, but to be honest I carry my spydercos and emersons way more than my chris reeves and striders.

I've had all three as well, and Striders just do it for me. I think it's the ergo's honestly. It just feels "right" in hand. Also, the Strider's I've owned had none of the F&F issues others have described. YMMV. I'd get both and then whichever you don't like, sell. They'll hold their value just fine.

I've had a couple SnGs, a couple small sebenzas, and an older Umnumzaan. I loved the look and the idea of the Strider and the fit and finish on my second one was top notch with great lock-up. Problem was I just couldnt get it to feel comfortable to me, which is too bad because it really was an awesome knife. I had an older Umnumzaan and found it hard to get to the lock bar, but that has been fixed. If i had to get one today it would be the Umnumzaan. It was outstanding (minus the lock bar which has been fixed).

I have had over a dozen Striders......and still rolling with them!! I'd go with a Strider SmF in DGG because it has the slimness that offsets the SmFs larger size....and weight. I have both SnGs and SmFs and I love both......no blade play, no movement, no problems. Also, Strider has the best warranty out there.....break and replace with no questions.....how can you go wrong??

Fit and finish hands down goes to the sebenza. I have two SMF's with the new lock geometry and they are rock solid but for the money I would go with the sebbie. I love my sebbie's and wont ever part with them the smf's its a different story

Some eye candy for you

I've had two Strider SnGs. The first was perfect while the second CC had lock-rock. Sold both but if you can find a newer lock version they should be bullet proof. I do have several CRKs and the construction is flawless. My suggestion though would be to look at a Spyderco Southard. Better quality than my Hinderer XM18 Gen3 and more more of a robust knife if that's what you are looking for.

Im having second thoughts I am now thinking of getting the large sebenza instead of the Strider and just wait to get a Strider for a couple months because Spending my hard earned money on a knife especially a $500 knife I want to know right when I get the knife that it was 100% worth it and I feel Chris Reeve will accomplish that more than a strider right now but soon I will most likely have all 3.

Thanks,
John

You've made a good choice IMO.

In the end, all are great knives.....one is more refined while the others may be less so. I've owned Sebenzas and sold them, but that was my choice.....I'll still always go with Strider, but that's my choice as I've worked my way through all of the options out there and that is simply my go-to knife......I've got one in my pocket as we speak. You really can't go wrong with either and if you've resigned yourself to owning all of them in the end it is just semantics for the here and now.
