Should I feel Guilty? EDC Post

I carry these two, not sure if the photo will post after the update to tapatalk and will have to do it later. Alox cadet and a rough rider mini barlow. I've tried to edc other things like a Domino, sage 2, Le Thiers, Northwoods presidential but none have won out Mon-Fri over this little peanut sized knife. It's incredibly sharp too. I stropped it on wood last week barely touched the blade and it bit me.

I am more attached to my users than the knives that I pick up just because they are a great knife but cost a bit more.

Chris! Good to see you mate!

My normal carry. Carbon's been swapped for Inox. Loss? No worries.

Hi Pinnah! I love the inox. I gave away my #9 carbon in a bf GAW and picked up the slim no. 8 in inox. Such a handy thin blade. I think I want the regular 8 now too! I ran a fun experiment thus summer it was a $180 Spyderco domino vs a made in China 440a rough rider trapper, serrated Cara Cara 2 and ultimately an opinel. For yard work cutting thick vines the Domino came in dead last over the other knives that ranged in price from $9 to $22. So blade profile often times means a lot! The Domino's fit and finish was incredible and a marvelous piece of engineering. It just doesn't mean that it cuts better in all situations!

I got that figured $100 LeThiers to replace the little $9 one. After a few weeks, sold the Chambbriard and put the little $9 made in China job back in my pocket. Happens I suppose.

Use 'em all. Play with the edges! thin them out and thicken them up. Compare them to each other, carry more then one ;) Find the one you love and carry it with you every day. Don't be scared to break them, and don't do anything you know will. Inexpensive or Expensive alike they are all tools to be used!

The funny thing about this debate is that more expensive knives are ideologically SUPPOSED TO DO A BETTER JOB AT BEING KNIVES then inexpensive knives, and yet the more expensive they are, the less people will be likely to use them hard.
For instance, ZTs like the 0801 are a lot stronger and more robust than blurs, and yet they don't often get used as hard because they're more expensive. Lol wut? You paid more for the Ti, Elmax, and sturdy build quality for a reason! It makes it a better KNIFE, and more capable of handling minor abuse than a cheaper folder. Not that you should be abusing it, but you get the point

The reason I buy better quality, more expensive knives is because I want something BETTER. It would be sad if the sub-100 dollar price point was the cutoff for improved function and everything beyond was just for "coolness".

With regards to the whole "beater knife" thing, AGAIN, wouldn't you rather beat on a knife that had the quality and improved materials to handle it??? I mean, think about it. If a blur could complete a tough task without breaking, then surely a ZT could do the same and better, right? It's common sense people. If more expensive hard use folders were easier to break than cheaper ones, why the hell would I waste my money on them? Obviously, different knives are made with different tasks in mind. But for beater knives strength should be of utmost importance. So, why get a cheaper flimsier knife to beat on rather than a sturdy high quality one? YOU WILL ACTUALLY BE LESS LIKELY TO BREAK IT BECAUSE ITS MADE BETTER:)

And while I won't claim to be some badass bushman who beats the shit out of all of his knives on a daily basis, I still believe knives are meant to be USED. Not abused, of course, but USED.

Rant over:p

I'd have my Wife pick out a knife that she really likes and buy it for her. That should solve your problem.

Every knife a user for me. Not interested in owning any safe- or shelf-queens. (Same with photo equipment, for that matter.)
