Should I get a Hibben or Ruana Bowie

This is the problem I have with Hibben's stuff though. I don't want to spend 1k plus on a blade that your average Joe is going to associate with the garbage in a BudK catalog.

That said, he does make some incredible stuff. Seeing his blades as a kid is probably the reason I'm still knife obsessed today... that bastard.

The Average Joe is gonna think a Scagel is an old piece of junk.

If this is a collectable piece.. BUY A M STAMP RUANA BOWIE.. Long term u cant go wrong! I love Hibbens designs but just over produced in my opinion, unless u got the big bucks 3k and can buy a CERTIFIED one by Hibben himself...

Old rustic authentic ruana will make u a few bucks in 20 years while u enjoy looking at it to u sell it... But remeber the vintage Ruanas are rough around the edges unless u buy the new ones.. I am a fan of BOTH.. Rudys and the newer ones made by his family!! They have that feel!

One collector posted advice along the lines; look for a new maker that does exceptional work but who does not have the 'fame' yet. You could get 2 or 3 bowies from different makers for the same amount of money that you would spend on either of the knives posted. The bowies will be of similar or higher quality. In 40 years chances are one, some or all will appreciate more (as a % of the purchase price) than the Ruana or Hibben.
