Should I get a Sebenza?

With that said, is it "overboard" to shell out the money for a Sebenza when I will rarely use it?

No; go for it. The Sebenza is a great knife. It somehow captures the essence of "knifeness." It is the only knife you will ever need. You will appreciate it whether or not you use it.

Ok, I guess I'll get one some time :)

I know I want the large over the small, just need to decide if I want a plain one or one with a graphic. Are the ones most dealers have all he has out right now? I think you can custom order one right? I assume that would cost even more than a regular machined one though.

Should you get a Sebenza? YES. I've had a lg reg in BG 42 since '98. I use, but don't abuse it. I spend as much or more in a month on Guinness, so the price is hardly a deterrent. It's kind of like an Omega Seamaster-top quality and understated elegance.

If I can put my 12-string down for long enough, I'll post a photo of all three.
Rickenbacker, Omega, and Reeve-all at the pinnacle of their respective arts.

You'll stop having that last trace of doubt once you unwrap your Seb and hold it in your hands. You can, and will, immediately feel the quality and realize the gap between "lesser" knives and what you hold in your hand. Open it up and listen to the lock snapping into place with a dry and metallic *cling* and you've already forgotten about the money you've spent.

Quit drooling over it, you know there's no escape!

I think I'm leaning more toward the plain one for now, but I'm still unsure.

Are there any bigger pictures of this knife he has on his site?

I don't know if you can still get them, but the blue/blue combo looks awesome. I know that design is still available, but I haven't seen one exactly like this.

No don't get one. You're not ready. You'll know if and when you're ready and then you should. There'll be no uncertainty then.

I've narrowed it down to a Umnumzaan, or a large Sebenza Straight ahead design.
Way I see it it's not like you buy it and it's not worth anything afterwards, so why not!
Now I just have to make up my mind.

I love the Straight Ahead design! It was a real option for me - I decided to go for a Small African Blackwood but the next one will be a Computer Graphic.
